Booooo ya
October 17th, 2011
I did it. I not only climbed the Mt. Everest of sewing… I also swam the English Channel of sewing. Everyone said the instructions were hard - so I didn’t read them (better living through ignorance). Even though I had Flat Tim watching over me (and boy, he had doubts)…
… and even though my Weekender looks different than all the others… and even though I gave up on the piping… and even though I skipped all the fusing and intersomething stuff by quilting my pieces… I’m still very happy. Oh so happy.
And I’m ready to make another. In 2024.

WOW! That’s Awesome! I can’t wait to see her in real life!!! I LOVE your fabric choice!
October 17th, 2011…for me? You’re ready to make another for me.
(I think you hit “post” before adding that part.
;)
October 17th, 2011Kudos, dude! Hey, I’ve made that bag too … twice. I also gave up on the piping. Correction - I didn’t even bother. Piping makes me crabby. Your Weekender looks fan-frikin-tastic - or should I say Happy … or Yummy! haha When are you taking your weekender out? And where? And can I come too? ;)
October 17th, 2011Love it. The colors are so bright and cheerful. It makes me smile! :-)
AJ
October 17th, 2011It’s fantastic!!! Im planning on trying it very soon. :)
October 17th, 2011I need flat Tim to come live here. Please? Pretty please? He needs to travel! (LOVE him.)
October 17th, 2011I guess you found your sherpa and damn that sherpa is a good one!!
October 17th, 2011Oh I think Kimberly misunderstood and you’re making one for ME! I’ll settle for what every fabric you choose BTW….lol!
October 17th, 2011You go girl! Fabulous job. I LOVE that you skipped all that nasty intersomething. Do you rent out flat Tim, and does he have a passport??
October 17th, 2011seriously Bitchin Bag!!
xoxoxo
October 17th, 2011I made one for myself too, this summer. And although it turned out nice and I use it every day for work, I’ll never make another one… NEVER!
October 17th, 2011Rock on Saucy Mama!! Your weekender is the height of rock stardom! Booooo-ya!!
October 17th, 2011Your Weekender bag looks awesome! I don’t think I’ll ever be brave enough to attempt it - complicated non-flat item patterns give me hives :) I seriously love your sewing machine deco - Flat Tim is totally going to help you ‘Make It Work’ and I laughed at the Flowmaster sticker, since that’s the type of dual exhaust we have on our F150.
October 17th, 2011Good job, smarty pants! Love the quilting idea.
October 17th, 2011Flat Tim!
October 17th, 2011Flat Tim is awesome.
You made it work, so psh to all those who say reading the directions!
Flat Tim. I’m gonna have to get me one of those!
Everyone needs a Flat Tim.
And by everyone, I mean ME.
You ROCK!!!
October 17th, 2011Seriously if all the weekenders were alike the world would be a boring place……love it
October 17th, 2011Booya indeed. Flat Tim looks dubious–glad you proved him wrong!
October 17th, 2011Love it!! And my fears are fewer knowing I could skip the piping. . .
October 17th, 2011The bag looks great…. the pic of Flat Tim looking over your sewing….too funny.
October 17th, 2011Wendy
you go girl - it looks great - I might join you in 2024
October 17th, 2011Your bag looks awesome- love the fabric!!!!
October 18th, 2011I love it! I keep meaning to make one of my own but just havent bought the pattern yet.
I have made a couple of Sophia Carry alls and though there is no way they would carry all my stuff I used each one to death. I linked straight to the post.
I also had issues with the piping, it was very uneven but no one else seemed to notice.
October 18th, 2011Super fun happy time! Well done!
October 18th, 2011Super cute! I have been wanting to make one of these - it’s going on my to do list!
October 18th, 2011Gorgeous! I want one now…
October 18th, 2011Oh, I love it. So Y.O.U. :) I dream of the day when we can sew together….or at least fondle fabric together. :)
October 18th, 2011MY HERO!!! Look at you sew! YOU GO GIRL!! I am SO proud of you!! I love everything about this bag. (yeah…and the fabric is amazing…who is the most talented designer of that, btw…*wink*) I don’t know that I have the courage to try this, but I’ll sit and admire yours! xoxo
October 18th, 2011See….told you sew!!! Adorable!
October 18th, 2011YUM YUM!! you are a sewing goddess. and don’t even tell me that thing has a zipper on it? jaw-dropping awe here. it’s a beauty! xxoo

October 18th, 2011Love the bag, but your last sentence pretty much sums up my feeling about making bags! thanks for the giggle
October 18th, 2011I LOVE this and I LOVE your Flat Tim. So much cooler than Flat Stanley. Your weekender looks amazing and I can’t wait til I reach this level of sewing some day!
October 18th, 2011This post made me laugh out loud! I loved it! :)
October 18th, 2011Turned out awesome!
October 18th, 2011Awesome bag!!! I need a flat Tim, too. But even with his help I don’t think I could pull off that awesomeness! It’s super-awesome!
October 18th, 2011As soon as I saw, “I climbed the Mt. Everest of sewing,” I thought, “She made the Weekender bag!” It looks great, I love it in Happy Mochi!
Love Flat Tim.
October 18th, 2011Congrats!!! It’s beautiful. and may I officially induct you into the “Yes, I followed a pattern….sort of…” club!!! It’s a skill, and may I say, You’ve got skills!!
October 18th, 2011I am so impressed by your ‘capabilities’..you never cease to impress and amaze me. You know, you should be a ‘teacher’. You should open up a SCHOOL..and I should be one of your first students. You could teach an entire ‘class’ of students/admirers how to make one beautiful item after another..then one or two from your class could go out and do the same thing..and not only would there be many talented women circulating out there..they would be purchasing ‘fabric’ by huge quanities and SMILING at everyone….ah! such is happiness! All this because you hit another one out of the ball park!!! You are impressive!
October 18th, 2011Bags are always hard! Yours looks fantastic! Way to complete the “iron man” of sewing :)
October 18th, 2011WOW! I love it! And I love your flat TIM! He talks to me too, when I’m struggling with a project. Whenever I’m ready to give up, I hear him say: “MAKE IT WORK!!!” and I do!!
October 18th, 2011Love the bag!!! Aren’t instructions meant to be interpreted????
October 18th, 2011It turned out great! Do you want to loan me the pattern and I’ll return it by 2024? I’m one of those crazy ladies who really wants to make it just so I can say I did it.
Good work, lady, and your fabric choice is, of course, just fabulous.
October 18th, 2011LOVE your bag! I’m itching to make a smaller, less complicated tote bag with your Blue Floraburst print. And I LOVE that Tim Gunn “supervises” you as you Make It Work!
October 18th, 2011Oh you zombie gal you! Special powers you did possess! Love the fabric…it looks tote ally cool! heehee…Now go someplace and use that bag!! Weekend trip to California perhaps?
October 18th, 2011WOW! Great job … still giggling that “flat” Tim watches you .. hehehehe. Ok, I think I need to jump on the band wagon and now make one too … for next years retreat, right? Congrats … looks great!
October 18th, 2011Congratulations on your finish! Wow! Tim is such an inspiration! I’m glad he was able to help you “get ‘er done.” Oh wait, that would be Larry. Maybe I’ll post Larry the Cable guy on my sewing machine.
Naw, I think I’ll post a pic of Hugh Jackman instead.
October 18th, 2011love your Tim Gunn! I’ll have to get something like that for my machine. The bag looks great!
October 18th, 2011Congratulations Monica! Your weekender looks beautiful!!
No one has to know about the missed and/or fuged stuff - only you and me and a million readers of your blog!!
Love it, love it, love it - hope you enjoy it in good health!
October 18th, 2011I have been wanting to try that bag for the LONGEST time!
October 18th, 2011Beautiful!
No way!!! You are a rockstar!! It is gorgeous!!!
October 18th, 2011It’s gorgeous and congratulations! I just finished mine last weekend and I have the very same sense of accomplishment! I also want another one but there is no way I’m making one again until I forget how difficult this one was. You did a gorgeous fabulous job, here’s a pic of mine!!
October 18th, 2011Seriously Zombie, you had doubts? You are a sewing goddess :) We bow to the likes of you!
October 18th, 2011Amazing. Because for years I’ve wanted to make this but you named all the reasons I didn’t. IT looks great. Be careful. I might want to steal it. Esp with your fabric made in it.
October 18th, 2011Awesome! The Weekender is legendary! There’s a funny post on the hip stitch albuquerque website/blog. Suzanne has said she will never make another and then, she does. . . ha ha. I am struggling to make the Amy honey bun poof - I feel like calling her and saying, “REALLY?” but I love her stuff.
October 18th, 2011Love it! I’m so jealous right now!
October 18th, 2011Holy crap, that was quick! Looks great! 2024 is about 100 years earlier than I will make another one. Kudos to you!
October 18th, 2011It is fantabulous. I love and adore it.
I was ready to place my order until I read this:
And I’m ready to make another. In 2024.
I guess it was a little harder than the apples and mini treat bags . . .
October 18th, 2011Remember, we suffer for our art. WE SUFFER! Hey, that bag is so worth it! If you decide to make another one in 2024, can I watch? ;0
October 18th, 2011Ha! Way to go!!!!
October 18th, 2011absolutley stunning…I LOVE IT!!!
October 19th, 2011It looks great! You’ll probably end up making another one, just to punish yourself. Us crafters like to do that once in a while :)
October 19th, 2011I see you channeled your inner Tim and made it work! It’s adorable. Will it be going to market with you? :)
October 19th, 2011Congratulations again - just looked at the pictures of your Weekender and stopped drooling a bit now.
Not being familiar with the pattern, did you have to laminate the fabric first? Saw that you shared some laminated fabric with Pam Kitty and wanted to ask you.
I agree with Wrennette about starting a school! Would you ever consider doing a class with one of your Happy Zombie patterns for your Zombiettes to attend? Please?
October 20th, 2011No wonder you’re happy - it is just fab!!!
October 20th, 2011Well didn’t you just “make it work” !!! Love your weekender ! (Now send Flat Tim to me ….. wait, no …. better not … he’d just throw his hands up in despair! )
October 20th, 2011i really really really need a flat Tim for my sewing room! lovely bag.
October 20th, 2011i really really really need a flat Tim for my sewing room! lovely bag.

October 20th, 2011OMG!!! TOOOO funny! Love the idea of Flat Tim! Make it work, Monica! Oh, and your bag looks great too! My Weekender pattern is still part of my Virgin Pattern Collection… Love checking your blog for a good laugh! Thanks!!!
October 20th, 2011You are soooooo brave. I have been sewing along time and I have been reading the posts about this bag but not sure I could manage it. But maybe I will follow your lead…it turned out so cute!!!!Well Done :-)
October 21st, 2011Make it work!!!
I need one of those pictures on my machine lol…or maybe a life-size cardboard cutout of him looming over me…
October 21st, 2011HOLY CRAP.
October 21st, 2011I was going to say a sewing retreat to the beach would be nice, but I’m afraid I wouldn’t get any sewing done! I live near a beautiful lake, a retreat in a cozy lake cottage would be great! (but only during the winter) I LOVE your FABRIC!
October 21st, 2011Holy crap girl that turned out AWESOME!!! I love it!! And I want a Flat Tim….he was here in Albuquerque a few weeks ago but you had to spend $100 at the Lucky Brand Jeans store to meet him and get a picture with him. Unfortunately since they are stupid and do not carry sizes for REAL women that was a no go for me but my friend met him and said he was darling!!! I love my sexy silver haired fox. And girl - you totally made it work!!!!
October 24th, 2011Bwahahaaa! In 2024. teeheehee. It looks fantastic!
October 28th, 2011First I think your bag turned out great. I just found your blog today and am enjoying reading your posts.
Second, how may I obtain a “Flat Tim” to put on my machine and question my abilities as a seamstress with a mere look? ;o)
Karen
November 3rd, 2011Verry Snazy! and Cute…..I’m so jealous! I guess I have to step up to the plate and order this pattern from You, and make one for myself cause none of my Quilty Buds are is going to make me one!…Mahalo
