Christmas Tree Pants Sew-Along - DAY 2

October 14th, 2011

Please join me today for Day 2, and next Friday (October  21) for finishing up with Day 3.  If you’re just getting started and need to back-track to my Day 1 - you can start here.

Sew along with me and post your photos each week to the Christmas Tree Pants Sew-Along Flickr group for a chance to win sleigh-load of great goodies from the  Sew,Mama,Sew! Holiday Sew-Along.  Every photo you post in the Tree Pants flickr group is an entry!  All the SMS prize info is at the bottom of my tutorial on SMS.

Day 2 of the sew-along is kind of an easy week - which is kind of relaxing, or a good time to jump in to the sew-along. Though any time is good time to jump in. This week is making 12 sashing strip units.

Eight of the strips will have star points on one end.

Four of the strips with have star points on both ends.

For people makin’ the scrappy version - you get a little extra fun this week… and get to make two 9-patches. Piece of cake, right?!
Christmas Tree Pants sew-along - Day 2

I have another little bundlette of 5″ strips of a Holiday Happy & Happy Mochi Yum Yum combo - waiting to go to good home.  Each Friday of my sew-along I’ll give one away.
Christmas Tree Pants sew-along - Day 1

Leave me a comment here to enter for this week’s bundlette.  If you feel like telling me what your current favorite element or elements (object, shape, etc.) are that you like to see in a fabric is - I’d love to know. I’ll announce the bundlette winner here next Friday - just before I post the teaser post for Day 3 of the Tree Pants sew-along.

I’m currently really loving tiny geometrics that read as solids from afar, but close up have some dimensional shapes, or two or three related colours. Until I’m ready to make the full-on leap to solids, these kinds of blenders are still on my cutting table a lot. And text, of course, I do like some scripted text in tiny, cursive writing.

  21. The fabulous Stephanie allegedly said:

I’ll jump on the dots band wagon. I also really like owls and butterflies at the mo. I think the butterfly thing can be attributed to the fact that I just turned 40 and I’m obviously trying to deny it by liking things school-age girls like - pigtails, skinny headbands, LMFAO songs and butterflies.

  22. The fabulous Pat V. allegedly said:

I’m really liking flowers just now, which is kind of new for me. I appreciate the chance to win some of your fabulous fabric!

  38. The fabulous Ann in NC allegedly said:

Humm, element…I like triangles and swirls. The pants are looking great! I was at a local quilt show last weekend. When it got chilly, the vendors with tree “skirts” wore them as shawls! I tried to convince one of the pattern vendors to create a cool shawl pattern! I think there is potential!

  39. The fabulous Wrennette allegedly said:

What a great question for you to pose. I’m so surprised to see so many people who think like me…I was thinking people would think my answer was ‘boring’ and lo and behold…gobs of people are in love with polka-dots. I have loved polka dots since I was little in the ’50s…and I also like stripes….I have revelled at all of the colors of dots that are out. I have been collecting many of them for one WILD AND WONDERFUL QUILT…that I will enjoy for all of my days. BUT I have enjoyed many others that are out.
If you, Monica make something from….whatever..I am a fan.

  40. The fabulous Allegory allegedly said:

I’m on a geometric kick. I just got off a dot kick so I didn’t want more dots..but had to stay away from florals. I started finding fabrics with hashmarks and triangles in them.
Then I came across fabrics that have kaleidoscopic feels to them. I love them soo very much.

Monica, you are the most fun quilt blogger … you always keep me feeling cheery. Pretty stuff there!

  51. The fabulous DianeP allegedly said:

Right now, I’ve been playing with circles. Fabric with circles, making circle napkins (that fold up like origami) and a table runner with different size circles all connected. I think it’ll look cute with summer soda colors in bright pinks, greens and blues (no orange soda please).

At the moment I absolutely adore small scale prints of creatures/plants/flowers etc that can be fussy cut into tiny pieces! It’s not so fun sewing teeny tiny pieces… but the end result is to die for!

  69. The fabulous Lori allegedly said:

  75. The fabulous VickiT allegedly said:

Another great tutorial. I love the tree pants. And your fabrics are just wonderful to look at. They always make me smile.

The style I am drawn to right now really is more of color and style I suppose. I love swirls and florals but anything purple with blues always catch my eye. But, a few months ago I started really loving teal/aquas and pinks/red together.I suppose that’s why I love your fabrics so much.
