Fire quilt
February 14th, 2010
I was so touched by the wonderful emails, comments and flickr notes I’ve received over my previous post/photos. I wish I could find the words to express how much everyone’s kind words mean to me. And a simple thank you just doesn’t seem big enough to cover my heartfelt thanks! I really suck at mushy stuff and expressing myself from my heart. Thank you!!
My finished quilt.
My Bunnyhill BOM.
My Dude, Where’s My BOM quilt
My “fire quilt” (the quilt I’d grab if the fire marshal said I could run in and only grab ONE QUILT if my house was on fire).
I had lots of leftovers from my Sweet and Swell charm packs - so I decided to use them for my setting. Like little hands applauding and clapping Anne Sutton for her beautiful designs. Clap, clap, clap… bravo, Anne, bravo… clap, clap, clap…
I’m happy to share my setting “recipe” if anyone wants to use it. Paying it forward. From Anne to me. Me to you. You to ___?
From my leftover charms (5″ squares), 39 to be exact, and from about a yard of solid I cut:
348) 1½” squares of assorted prints
80) 1½” squares of white solid (I used Moda Bella, it’s dreamy)
62) 8½” x 1½” strips white solid
Make 20 9-patches from 100 print squares/80 solid squares:
Make 31 sashing strips from 248 print squares/62 solid strips:
My quilt finishes at 36″ x 47″. And now that I’m done with this, I’m going to move on to my next project and get ready for my sista-friend Tammy Gilley and her friend Rebecca Sower - who have joined forces and created a wonderful upcoming project called Quilt Haiti (you can grab your own button here). I hope to soon have a freebie quilt pattern for Quilt Haiti available. Soon.
Medical, food, funding… all things Haiti still needs. At some point the people of Haiti will have homes again - and will need to fill it with something soft, something warm, something made with love… something from the hands of her caring global neighbors. Everyone has a something to give or do for Haiti. Medical teams heal, builders build… and quilters quilt. Our turn is coming soon thanks to Tammy and Rebecca. I’m starting a lap quilt soon - so I can be ready.

Thanks for the Basket recipe Monica! I am still going to make that quilt.
February 14th, 2010Oh, and if you have time stop by my blog. I finished my Swanky Belgian Waffle thank doubly to you!
Awesome!
There is going to be a run on yellow fabric this week at all the quilt shops.
February 14th, 2010My fire quilt is very old has not 1 machine stitch in it.
February 14th, 2010I bought it from a little second hand shop, it was love at first sight.
It is red and white, has a few stains, and is beggining to fray on the edges, however, it’s very existence in my home brings me smile after smile.
Your little spot here is also a source of continuous joy and inspiration{mushy gushy}.
I would love to be a part of Quilt for Haiti. The gift of a handmade quilt is the gift of hope.
THAT is truly a thing of beauty Monica. Sheer perfection. BRAVO to YOU!! ( and a clap clap clap, too!)

This quilt makes me cry. It is that beautiful. What more can anyone say. E
February 14th, 2010WOW! My heart has skipped a beat or two. That is definitely an extra special quilt and I think I would cry a river if it were burned in a fire. It’s so sad to even think about it. You must absolutely adore this quilt like me and the rest of your followers. BRAVO!
February 14th, 2010thanks for the Quilt Haiti love, darlin’! xoxo
February 14th, 2010That is so gorgeous. I can totally see why its your `fire` quilt. I have not seen a quilt I felt moved to emulate for ages, but something like this is now on my to do list. Thanks so much for sharing. I love it. x
February 14th, 2010Oh Monica, your quilt is lovely. I love every detail. And it is perfect in your gorgeous studio.
February 14th, 2010I hope you had a lovely valentines day.
It’s so beautiful - I can’t believe how tiny those squares are my teeth are on edge just thinking about it. I’m still a newbie sewer and have gotten so far as just about managing a straight line… I can just imagine how many times my fingers would be sewn to that quilt if I attempted it. Eep!
February 15th, 2010It’s just beautiful!
But I still think it would be safer at my house.
February 15th, 2010I really want to join the project
February 15th, 2010Quilt Haiti !
Thank you Monica for sharing your completed quilt - it’s so much pretttier with the patchwork sashing! The white border sashing really shows off each block and the patchwork sashing gives it a whole new dimension!
Wonderful work - thank you so much and for the Hearts for Haiti.
February 15th, 2010cuter! didn’t think that could happen…but definitely cuter ;)
February 15th, 2010That. Is. GORGEOUS.
February 15th, 2010All I can say is perfect. This took it from cute to way cuter. This is also why I love looking at blogs, I never would have come up with a setting like that. Thanks for sharing.
February 15th, 2010I’m weepy with quilt love for your quilt. Seriously. And could those fabrics be anymore perfect? You’re the genius my friend. Genious.
February 15th, 2010Heart stopping cute Monica! I can see why its your fire quilt. If it was mine it would be too…guess I’d better getting working faster and faster. Oh I have a perfect quilt ready for binding for Quilt Haiti, I love being ahead of the curve!
February 15th, 2010currently i’m helping a 17 year old make large queen size pillow case quilts so he can send over 30 of them. how wonderful that so many with different capacities are trying to help.
February 15th, 2010Holy Cow Woman! Your quilt is SO cool! It’s absolutely my favorite of all the ones out there — might be those butter dotties but I don’t think so LOL! You Da Bomb!!!
February 15th, 2010This would definitely be my “Fire Quilt” too! You have to know how talented and amazing I think you are! Oh how I wish you would start designing and selling patterns!
February 15th, 2010Thanks so much for sharing your boarders. They look perfect! I can start working on finishing my quilt, now that you’ve been my “muse”!
Hope you have a great week!

February 15th, 2010Oh, I LOVE your basket quilt…I love everything of it! Really! I LOVE that you chose Urban Chiks fabric for it, I especially love the happy yellow polka dot (have to find it for my polka dot collection…). I love the ric rac handles of the baskets. Hugs, Julia
SOOOOO BEAUTIFUL! And so fun and colorful. I didn’t even “get” that they were holiday-themed squares until the second time reading last week’s post! HA! SO SWEET! I LOVE IT!

truly amazing monica.
February 15th, 2010you may have outdone yourself this time.
:applauds
OK, are you sick yet of all gushy, mushy love for your quilt? Too bad. Here’s some more. It makes me so happy to look at it. There isn’t one thing you could have done better. So what to you do once you have reached perfection?
February 15th, 2010I love the way your quilt turned out. I love all the blocks and the way you did the setting. Great heart button for the Quilt Haiti. I look forward to hearing more about that.
February 16th, 2010Yep,that for sure is a fire quilt. Wow. It’s just gorgeous, M. I want to just keep looking at it…
February 16th, 2010Love your version of Bunny Hill, so bright and cheerful. Yellow was always my favorite color growing up.
February 17th, 2010WOW! What more can be said! So I will say it again! WOW! That is a really cool quilt. How many charm packs did you use? I have several lying around but I don’t know if I have enough. Wouldn’t want to start cutting them up if I didn’t since they are older fabric lines and I would never be able to get more of them. But if I don’t have enough it would be a reason to visit a local quilt shop! Again just gorgeous!
February 17th, 2010Hi Monica,
February 17th, 2010Your finished Tisket Tasket turned out wonderful. So many have completed their quilts and they are so much fun to see, thanks for the inspiration and nudge to get mine finished…… And you don’t suck at mushy stuff, you’re sweet as pie!!
Beautiful! I have seen the same BOM on other sites — so nice of Bunny Tales to provide the patterns — but yours is my absolute favorite. The colors are perfect and I love, love, love the way you finished it.
February 17th, 2010Monica, That is wonderful! I don’t know how you do it, but you sure put some awesome quilts together! Love the colors! Karen
February 17th, 2010Oh my gawd that is amazing! Way to go for finishing all that beautiful work!
February 18th, 2010That’s some awesome sashing.
February 18th, 2010Your quilt is absolutely gorgeous. There is something so therapeutic about making a quilt. And I love applique. The results are so precious. I Iike how you used rickrack and buttons. Nice touch.
February 19th, 2010Your Bunny Hill Quilt is beautiful. I love your use of blocks and fabric choices. Now mine in plain red looks drab. Darn you, I will need to make another one now. How do I participate in the Haiti project? You are the best you know.
