I’m so excited… the current issue of Quilts & More (Spring 2009) is hitting the newstands! Inside this issue is my little mushroom needlebook project and pattern. So fast, so fun, and I’m so thrilled Q&M wanted to publish it, and just as giddy because my project is in my favorite color combo… Red. White. Aqua. Mmmm. I couldn’t be happier how it all turned out and what a beautiful job (as always) the good peeps at Meredith did with it!
Cover-girl alert! Look, look, it’s Roseann! Roseann’s beautiful “no diamonds to sew” quilt is definitely on my to-do list, and looks like it would be a fun quilt to make at a retreat (I’m having retreat withdrawls… I need one. Bad!). Also on my to-do On my done-list, because I couldn’t stand just looking at the photos and not making one fast enough - is the ADORABLE “Sweet Slice” cake pattern by Cindy Taylor Oats. DAR. LING!
I was so excited to make it, that I took a short-cut (that I SHOULDN’T have), and didn’t use fusible interfacing as directed. Bad me, because my cake got a little lumpy, saggy and out of shape (but I still love it). Note to self: add fusible interfacing to my entire wardrobe.
More magazine love… my teenie tiny little studio is being featured in Cloth Paper Scissors STUDIOS (Spring 2009)! Holy scrap, my head is sure to snap off when I see it. I couldn’t be more honored and flattered to be in the issue, especially since my goofy little Happy Zombie Hideaway will be amongst the great studios of Melissa and Betz! And speaking of cover-girls… that’s Melissa’s studio on the cover!
From the super wonderful STUDIOS editor Cate - The Spring issues of Cloth Paper Scissors Studios is now available for pre-order. It will be available on select newsstands March 31. If you’d like to pre-order a copy, you can do so here.
A little behind the scenes about getting my studio ready. Sure, it was one thing to get my studio cleaned up and lookin’ pretty, as well as cooperation from the weather (Oregon = dark days)… but the biggest task was getting ME all cleaned up! Super-Cate wanted a photo of me. OF ME??? Ugh. Ugh again. I don’t do pics of me, so I wanted to submit these:
Me… Simpsonized.
A no-go.
Me ala Juniper Creek (when I was deciding what to wear at PDX quilt market).
A no-go.
I even sent pics of the real me… in a hoodie, Hurley hair and no make-up.
A no-go.
So I did my parents proud… I foof’d my hair, foof’d my face with mascara and lip-gloss, and I even donned a blouse (with buttons and everything!). So if you see the issue, know that a lot of time, effort and elbow grease went into jazzing things up. My studio was a piece of cake.
And speaking of studios… THIS is my version of heaven.

My eyes nearly popped out of my head… oops! I saw the new Quilts and More magazine while on vacation and the first thing I thought of was you. Yes, believe it or not, I thought Ms. Zombie is sure to have a project in here. So I scooped up the LAST on their stand and quickly rifled through every page and low and behold the beautiful mushroom. I knew it was yours right away without even looking at the credits!! Amazing, huh? Kind of psychic or psycho, depending on how you look at it. Okay, now I am off to pre-order the wonderful Studios magazine. I love it… ahh to dream! By the way, I so remember that last picture of you with the lovely white athletic socks and black sneaks. Gorgeous, I say, simply gorgeous! Congrats to you on all fronts!!

February 26th, 2009Ahh Mon, I would be happy to see your face in person no matter what. I can’t wait to see your piece of heaven, even though I’ve been. I wish we were sitting and sipping on some coffee. I miss you tons. I’m so happy to see your success, you deserve it.
And Yeah for Roseann too. I have super loved her since I met her years ago. I went to her shop with my cousin and fell in love with the people and the shop and of course the sweetness of Roseann. Now that would be an amazing local store. Too bad they have snow.
Ok, sigh. Back to the sewing room. It will be featured in Cave Quartery soon.
February 26th, 2009How exciting!!!!! Not one but TWO magazines with Happy Z stuff in them!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I can’t wait to see them …. and your fun & (as always) CUTE as PIE project and your cleaned up sewing studio AND your spruced up self to boot!!!(I’m finding there’s much more upkeep in the “getting oneself spruced up dept” these days….not like back in the day (teens and 20’s) when you spent all that primping time because it was fun …. now it’s a thankless never ending job….sigh….)

February 26th, 2009Quilts and More is my very favourite US magazine. I’ve only been buying it for 3 issues, but I can’t wait for the newest issue to see your project! It takes a little while for it to arrive in my local news agency, but I have now reserved one and wait with anticipation for a call to say it has arrived!

(Don’t tell my DH)I have decided it will feature shelf of adorable pincushions and other geegaws to admire as I stitch away. Off to store to find the magazines, we don’t need groceries!
March 1st, 2009Now see. This is why we come here day after day. Where else on earth, are you going to read a hot tip like “add fusible interfacing to my entire wardrobe.” THAT is pure genius. I’m going to order a whole bolt tomorrow. (Hmmm, I wonder if it might be cheaper just to make one body-hugging-interfaced garment and wear it under everything else. Oh. I guess that’s sorta been done, no?)

Oooooooh I need both of those magazines! And of course I’ll have to wait patiently for Quilts and More to arrive at my little grocery store. They are let’s say….special, as in they ride the short bus special when it comes to getting magazines when they first come out. And I’m so glad that you posted the Juniper Creek picture. I LOVE it so much, it cracks me up. It might even belong on my fridge. x
