Field Trip!
October 7th, 2008
Dang… my posts have been getting sparser and sparser. I’ve been so busy with getting ready for Market (that’s SPRING ‘09 Market… not Fall ‘08 - sadly I won’t be able to attend Fall Market, sniff). Busy, busy, busy… but I did manage to get in some fun play-time with my friends. And what a wonderful time it was!
My little girl gang recently was treated to a wonderful day at my friend Sally’s house to celebrate her new craft studio. Many know of my friend Karen and her talented ways… but there’s another Snyder-girl who has the same gifts… Sally! Karen… cloth. Sally… paper. What a dynamic sister duo. So much to show, so much to tell. I think this is the longest/biggest post I’ve ever made, so I’ll keep my words to a minimum (I can hear the sighs of relief).
Sally with Bette. Bette is Karen and Sal’s mom… and also my pretend mom/my second mom. Bette is gifted too… with kindness, wit, humor, generosity, grace, beauty, style, extraordinary fashion sense and so much more.
Big sis Karen (R) and Connie’s sis Carol (L). Carol was visiting from Oklahoma and became an honorary member of our girl gang/mini guild for the day. I think she should move up here and become a permanent member.
L to R - Connie, Carol and Karen. (say that 5 x fast)
Sal shows us what’s in her drawers… Robin is caught off guard by what I just described.
Bette… so proud of her talented daughters. Behind Bette is a mural Sally had commissioned. It looks so real and you can’t help but want to touch it.
Endless storage hidden behind cupboard doors.
Wow… it [the cupboard] recesses really far back. I bet it almost reaches Idaho.
Sal showing Connie and Carol the closet. Something very foreign to me… a closet door that opens - and nothing spills out of it into a big heap on the floor. Must take notes.
So this is what those big sliding things at the bottom of a cabinet are for.
This is what organization looks like up close. Again, very foreign to me.
Bette typing on a vintage iPhone.
Who are you sending a text message to, Bette? “Why to Monica, of course!”
We all wore lime, black and white for the occasion. I made little fabric flower broaches for us to don.
Even Chris and Michelle dressed in lime/black/white for the party.
Craft tote I made for Sal. I used my Quilts & More purse pattern and extended the width of the pocket piece by 4″, and pleated it to make the pockets expand to hold crafty tools.
Tree-o-gifts on Sally’s kitchen table.
Look, look! A little bit of PamKittyMorning at Sal’s! Licorice scotties from TJ’s. Mmmm.
Sal set her lunch table so beautifully. It was almost too pretty to eat at. Almost. Nothing will stop me from partaking in a food event - no matter how pretty or cute.
Karen dishing up some YUM mac-n-cheese. Another talent of the Snyder Sisters… mac-n-cheese. I love both of theirs equally (keeping the peace so they’ll both feed theirs to me again).
A nice shot of Robin - she always has a wonderful smile on her face. Always.
Dessert for the eyes. Glass candies.
What a wonderful day it was - and it was even SUNNY!

Oh be still my beating heart. This is truly a gorgeous studio!!! I absolutely love the lime green as a contrast. :-)
October 7th, 2008What an incredible craft room. I am green with envy! And to think, I never really liked lime that much, but seeing it used in such a way completely changes my mind.
October 7th, 2008Wow! What a terrific studio! Thanks for the tour.
October 7th, 2008Oh that is so beautiful! I want to go play there, I lost my craft space in the move and am so sad seeing it in boxes.

October 7th, 2008heehee ~ I love that redneck comment. My girl gang members ARE rednecks. We can’t help it, but I do covet other worlds from time to time and that studio is full of fun stuff to explore. I would’ve had to be dragged out kicking and screaming!
October 7th, 2008Where is Carriage Country Quilts??
Holy Schamoly!!! All that green and black and white (hey, maybe she could pose my spider towels in that room!) are awesome! I LOVE your brooches and your cool bag — what a great friend you are.
I just want to know how people can be all coordinated like that. Do they throw away all of their pink and mauve from the 80’s??? ;-)
October 7th, 2008Wow. What a treat just to be able to ogle these pictures. I can’t even imagine having been there. Lucky you! To have such great friends and great times, too. Thanks so much for sharing with us.
October 7th, 2008I am jealous of two things….your craft room (so many delightful touches, space, color, it’s clean (I am trying not to look at my space which has too many projects sitting out) and Betty’s beautiful jacket that I would love hanging in my entry hall. She looks very pretty in it also.
October 7th, 2008Thanks for the lovely visit….
Mary Lou
Excuse me while I clean the drool off my face and the table! That is one sweet looking room! Love the dishes! Ya know, I’m really envious of people who were born with the decorating gene! I certainly wasn’t in line when it was handed out! Plain Jane home here! Oh well! You guys sound like a great group!
October 8th, 2008Wow, thanks for making us all jealous! :) tee hee Looks like you girlies had a wonderful time. What an awesome studio. I love the black and green and all the goodies you chicks shared. I miss you!

October 8th, 2008Monica! You were like five minutes from my house - okay maybe ten! We are truly shipping passing in the night. I just love Carriage Country Quilts - one of my favorites in the area.
Are you having a BOOTH at Spring market!?!? Are you totally making the plunge? Hmmmm?
October 8th, 2008Seriously gorgeous colour combinations!
October 8th, 2008Oh, where do I begin?!! (1) The colors of the room, wow, I love it, and how wonderful that you all dressed up in the same colors for the occation! (2) The organization, wow, I thought I was organizing crazy, I love it! (3) Your bag pattern, we all love it (by all, I mean me and my quilting friends). We just can’t stop making them!! - Great idea adding the 4 inches! (4) The licorice scotties… mmmhhh… I love licorice (5) the food table, delicious… an eye candy! - I can see you had a grrrreat day, thanks for sharing it with us!
October 8th, 2008I just want the food! LOL!
Seriously, Bette’s place is awesome!
So how come we don’t get to see a picture of you? Not even by the mural, by the Barbie dolls, not a hand holding the knobby love, nowhere near shocking Robin, touching Bette’s fashionable jacket, not even a face chowing down some awesome mac-n-cheese? What if the sisters were to serve you a plateful of lip-smackin’ SMs? Do I get to see your face then? LOL!
October 8th, 2008amazing!!!!
October 8th, 2008OH MY!! Such complete and total organization and color coordination …. right down to the dishes and everybody’s outfits!!! WOW !! and DOUBLE WOW !! (now I’m feeling pretty much like a slacker…..)

October 9th, 2008Okay now I just have to recomment! I just read your comments on my blog and was happy to find out that you are going to Barn House on the 18th. Have you been before? My sister-in-law and I are “Worthy Goods” and have been at Barn House alot this past summer! Have a great time, hope to see you there! I could say more about shopping, quilting etc. but I’ll restrain myself for now…
October 9th, 2008I’m green, black, white, polka dot and checked with jealousy! What a fabulous room, party and group of friends. Didn’t you love Carriage House?!? It just wraps itself around you with charm. I think I dropped about $150 there in one passing, but I did finish a quilt kit I bought there.
October 9th, 2008You always go on the coolest field trips.
October 9th, 2008That does it, I’m moving!
October 10th, 2008Monica, Beautiful post. It was almost like I was there again! Now you understand that Sally got ALL the organizational genes in the family and that didn’t leave ANY for me. I think she should be required to come organize my life. P.S. Those licorice Scotty Dogs look like they’re having an orgy.
October 10th, 2008What a fabulous blog, Miss Monica! I love all the pictures (except the ones with me in them!), and it’s fun reading all the comments, too. It was so much fun having you visit.
