Recently a “5 Things About Me” meme happily blazed through on Instagram, and now the Modern Quilt Guild is promoting the meme so those going to QuiltCon in Austin can pre-meet before the big event. So fun to read everyone’s, and in most cases some really awesome surprises about people!
1. This is me. Every day is a bad day hair, so when I get that occasional 8 minute window of straight hair from a freshie blow-dry, I jump at the chance to take a pic of the rare hair event. Even if it means I’m bra-less and in my jammies. I will not look like this at QuiltCon - I will look like Hugo Hurley in girl clothes. And wearing a bra.
2. I hate the sun. I was born and raised in California, then moved to Hawaii. Nothing but sun, sun and more sun. Moving to Astoria, Oregon (the greyest, wettest place in the United States) is my Utopia because I have reverse SAD. Not that I don’t love a pretty sunny day… I just love them in moderation.
3a. I have an iPhone case problem. I didn’t call it an addiction until I rounded up a few of them to take this photo. There are more. Lots more.
3b. I got an iPad for Christmas. A new addiction is brewing.
4. I once had a really vivid dream about Jon Stewart, so I count him as an ex-boyfriend.
5. I was an extra in the movie The Right Stuff for college credit (I didn’t get paid, but worth it because it raised my GPA). I’m in the big BBQ scene and the fan dancer scene - and I have never seen myself (I don’t even know if I made it on to the film) because I detest seeing myself on video/TV/film.

We are a small group, us reverse SAD sufferers. The main thing I miss about Oregon is the grey weather!!!! I hope the dream was a really good one with Jon and I’m totally envious because while David Bowie and I are old friends in my dreams, Jon has never bothered to show up.
February 7th, 2013oh, i am definitely a reverse SAD sufferer, too. i honestly get depressed when it’s too sunny. and hey, i was born in southern california, too! maybe there’s something in that? looking forward to seeing you at quiltcon!
February 7th, 2013Ha, ha, ha! I suffer from reverse SAD too! There are too many darn hot and sunny days here in Florida. A girl needs some cold and grey weather - it’s more fun to quilt when the weather outside is wicked!

February 7th, 2013I specifically went on your blog yesterday to see if you filled one of these out. Nothing. I’m not going to quilt con, but as your east coast stalker, in need of “ha ha ha” moments, I was really hoping you would do this and you DID! yay :-) Thank you for always making me laugh.

February 7th, 2013This made me so happy Monica. i have a bunch of phones cases too (albeit not as cute as yours) and several iPad cases as well. My DH mutters its like the fabric piles.”Is not! Monica does it too.” I can say now!

February 7th, 2013I also despise sunny hot days. I think it comes from being a farmer’s daughter, and working tobacco in the summer. Rainy days meant a day OFF! I love overcast grey days.

We have the same hair issue. Mine is totally fuzzy except for when I walk out of the hairdresser once every couple of months. I hate spending time blow-drying and flat-ironing my hair so it then spends a couple of months being fuzzy again til its one day of shiny ‘glory’.
And the sun. Hate the sun. Hate summer. Give me cool, overcast days every day of the week. Why I was born and raised in Australia is anyone’s guess.
Looking forward to your Quiltcon instagram pics, and I bet you girls are getting really excited for Quilt Market too, and have loooots of awesome plans.

February 7th, 2013hahaha! I totally get you on the sunshine thing. I live in South Africa for a couple of years and it really got on my nerves that it was sunny everyday. Made opening the curtains in the morning totally pointless - “oh look, another beautiful day. Sigh”
February 8th, 2013Those iPhone cases are seriously cute so I can’t blame you. Yet another good reason that I don’t have an iPhone-I actually have to seek out cases for my phone and the picks are usually very basic so I’m not tempted to waste my fabric cash.

February 8th, 2013I also hate the sun! People think I’m crazy when I say that! Last year when we lived in Seattle I couldn’t understand why everyone complained through the rainy season! (Well, ok, I would have rather had snow than rain. But they complained about the greyness the most!)

February 8th, 2013Hubby had a dream once that I left him for Billy Zabka - google him- he’s the bad guy from the original Karate Kid. Hubs was seriously PISSED at me when he woke up so I now count Billy Zabka as my secret lover:)

February 8th, 2013Reverse SAD…heeheehee! I’ve got it big time. I’ve never had a tan in my life, I burn and then peel, so living in the Oregon coast mountains is perfect for me. Grey and green are one of my favorite combinations. That’s what I see today as I look out the window. :)

February 9th, 2013Loved your five things, made me smile while reading. Your iPhone cases are adorable and I’m severely jealous here. I also totally understand the reverse SAD, but thankfully dont have. I’m a former north westerner living in a So Cal beach town. Took me a long time to be ok with staying in ona sunny days to do what I love …. Feel I have it all now!!
February 9th, 2013I’m so with you on loving grey days. I’m in Adelaide, South Australia and summers here are HOT. I love winter (ours is pretty user friendly really) and we don’t get much rain here in SA (we’re the driest state in the driest continent apparently) so I live for winter rain and get depressed when we start to get nice weather again in the spring!
February 10th, 2013I keep telling my husband that we should have moved to Oregon or Washington state instead of Ireland, and then we still could have had rainy, gray weather but without the super bad recession and his mother. I think he objects to the comment about his mother. ;) I have a geographical crush on the Pacific NW and am also a reverse SAD sufferer. Especially anything heat related–high 60s is a heat wave to me. Loved your meme!
February 11th, 2013Well I love your list. I grew up in Alaska. Went to school in Seattle and now live in New Mexico (where is it too sunny most of the time). I agree about a nice gray day. Also, perfect for crafting.

February 11th, 2013I was talking to my favorite 10 year old tonight. She told me, her friends think she is weird. Turns out weird is the new kewl. I asked her about “unique” or ‘bizzare”….she said no, weird is it. I asked her not to go Goth on me…she said she tried Goth with her Christmas Walmart makeup kit from Grandma, the black eye shadow and red lip gloss was not her thing….whoo hoo!

February 17th, 2013Ok, there’s gotta be something going on with this reverse SAD thing and Californians!! I am too, grew up in San Diego, and just melt into a sweaty puddle when the temp goes above 65! We live in cloudy WA too, and I LOOOOOVE it! There’s gotta be some science in that! haha :O)
February 18th, 2013I, too, have a serious iPad addiction - reading quilting blogs. I read yours from the beginning to the present along with many others. Yours is really funny. Good thing I’m retired and have time to do this kind of stuff. We have driven through Astoria many times going to and from Alaska. Nice town. Our son used to live in Nehalem. Great state park there. I think you might get even more rain than we do here in Kodiak. We avg. about 75″/yr. Standing by…
