Quiltini

September 29th, 2012

I was so over calling mug rugs, "mug rugs" even before I knew what one was. I have an arsenal of really bad names, but my mom doesn’t know I know these words. So I had to think of something that wasn’t NSFM. So I’m trying "quiltini" on for size.

My two latest quiltini’s - which I’m pretty I make just so I can bind something.

You are so dog gone clever. I love
Quiltini ! It is perfect. It puts
mug rug on the shelf as far as I’m concerned…and it will make people laugh
    which is great fun. Thankyou.

They are so edging cute! (Even the auto correct feature is channeling our mothers… I said effing KFire, not edging!)

mug rug has always left a terrible taste in my mouth. i refuse to say it. (i also refuse to say whatevs, totes, and bestie. and i won’t use one of those nursing covers because i refuse to purchase anything named a hooter hider or an udder cover. blargh. i am frequently a word snob.) but i like quiltini very much.

I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who just really likes to bind stuff. Hand stitching the binding to the back is my favorite part of any quilt type project. I’ve been thinking about making a quiltini (see what I did there?) just so I can bind something. Plus my scraps are taking over my already really tiny sewing area.

I love quiltini! Mug rugs are just glorified coasters, quiltinis are adorable decorations with many uses! :-D

  9. The fabulous Becky Greene allegedly said:

Perfect… perfectly perfection! From now on, quiltini it shall be!

I LOVE “Quiltini” - omgosh…it just makes me SMILE to say it…to THINK it…to SEE it…Quiltini..Quiltini..Quiltini…Oh yeh..that’s a keeper for sure!!! And I am with LC…I love to bind things…perhaps we need a new group…BindersAnonymous!

Quiltini sounds so much more funnerer. I spent a day binding orphan blocks just because it felt so good. Made mine into Block bunting for the shop.

  12. The fabulous Siobhan allegedly said:

Your quiltinis are sooo cute–in a good way.

  13. The fabulous Michele allegedly said:

Great idea and two really adorable Quiltinis in my humble opinion.

  14. The fabulous DianeP allegedly said:

Quiltini is a great idea, Monica! Not only can we sit our coffee cups on them, but we can perch our martini glasses on them and enjoy the quiltini pattern through the glass!

  15. The fabulous Laura allegedly said:

I love “quiltini” it completely opens up the possibilities for tiny quilts. I really like the fabrics you fussy cut for the Halloween quiltini.

  16. The fabulous Aunt Spicy allegedly said:

I totally support you with “quiltini”

  17. The fabulous Archie the wonder dog allegedly said:

    ‘Quiltini’ it is!!! Marvellous!

  18. The fabulous Cindy Sharp allegedly said:

I like it. Quiltini sounds both adorable and intoxicating.

  19. The fabulous Tammy Gilley allegedly said:

    Quiltini. Stealing it. :) xo

  20. The fabulous Amanda allegedly said:

Quiltini is awesome. I too, refused to call them “mug rugs” long before I knew much about them or cared what they were.

  21. The fabulous Milly allegedly said:

Yeah mug rug is pretty awful. I’ve never been able to bring myself to make one because of the name. Of course, one could always call them a ‘coaster’! Quiltini is much cuter though.

  22. The fabulous Destiny allegedly said:

Really diggin’ quiltini! If you say it real fast and in a squeaky type voice you sound like a Jawa (they say “Utinni!” if you didn’t know) from Star Wars lmao :D

  23. The fabulous Kelly allegedly said:

That is so funny! The Quiltinis is the name of my bee!!!

  24. The fabulous Cynthia allegedly said:

SO cute & love Quiltini!!! I call them Martini Mats on occasion too lol!

  25. The fabulous cindy allegedly said:

It was an itsy bitsy teeny weenie black and orange and green quiltini..that she made for the mugs to sit on! :)

  26. The fabulous Sue allegedly said:

Love “quiltini” ! It is so fun!
And really explains its greater purpose as a great little piece of art, over it’s practical use as a coaster. Mine gets well used, now I have an excuse to make many more!
I thought of making a quiltini (or 2) from the scraps of every quilt I make, as a reminder of what I have done.

  27. The fabulous Lynnette allegedly said:

I LOVE the quiltini name! I’ve never made a mug rug before - because, let’s face it, the name just bites. But a quiltini, now that sounds fun and forget about the coffee - let’s party with a martini!

  28. The fabulous Christina allegedly said:

I love the term and think you should sell them. I ADORE THEM!!!

  29. The fabulous thunder allegedly said:

love love love the word :) and the items !! and yes, I also love to do the binding.

  30. The fabulous nicke allegedly said:

that is a great name for them. i like it much better than mug rug.

Farting around with needle & thread and then blogging about it.
