APQ 1 Million Pillowcase Challenge
September 21st, 2012
When American Patchwork & Quilting asked me to participate in the One Million Pillowcase Challenge Blog Hop I jumped at the honor!
The American Patchwork & Quilting 1 Million Pillowcase Challenge is a really cool and fun way to Do Something for your community in your community. It’s so simple and so fun. Make a pillowcase and donate it locally! Well, that’s the nutshell version. APQ will explain it much better than I, but what I love so much about this is that it’s so community based. No fuss, no muss, no paperwork, nothing to mail - just making, having fun and giving.
What’s really cool is that APQ has gobs of pillowcase patterns, and even a video on how to make a really slick pillowcase. The APQ pattern I used was the Prairie Point Pillowcase one with my new Winterkist line.
I love Prairie points! When going to the pattern page, be sure to scroll down to see the entire archive of patterns.
APQ’s blog hop is hopping for the entire month of September with some of their favorite designers and 2012 sponsors. Be sure to visit every day to see the pillowcases and see how they’re helping the communities they’re in.

Gather some friends and make pillowcases! I gathered up my friends Traci and Gabrien and we had a blast.
Packing up sucks when you have to wait for your iron to cool. If only someone would design an iron cozy for a hot iron…
Bam - iron cozy. I’m sure I’ll be hearing any day now from AP&Q begging me to write up my instructions. Yup, totally sure.
Happy Zombie Iron Cozy (patent pending)

Iiiiii luv your mind and humor. And yes why can’t someone make something for a hot iron?
September 22nd, 2012Wow the quilting on your iron cozy is soooo good. I love the text fabric!
September 22nd, 2012cute pillowcases…i need some with prairie points too!!
they do make a hot iron carry/storage box. i have one and i LOVE it!! it totally works
google “sunbeam hot iron storage case”
it’s adjustable (it has fit all three irons that i have gone through since i bought it)
September 22nd, 2012I came across this idea for an iron caddy and portable pressing mat a few days ago the woman said it was a purchased pattern. It looks like she got it from connecting threads.
September 22nd, 2012Monica, if you haven’t designated a charity to receive the pillowcases you made, please consider ConKerrCancer.org. It was started by a mom who lost her teenage son to cancer. It’s a wonderful non-profit that facilitates the delivery of cheery pillowcases to children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases. I’m the Portland rep and make deliveries to Portland hospitals. All of the p’cases made for ConKerrCancer can be counted in the APQ 1 Million Pillowcase Challenge!
September 22nd, 2012there is a pattern to make a hot iron cozy!’ya know what they say…just google it!! in the winter at our retreats when it’s time to pack up us midwesterners just stick ours out in the snow! i bet a freezer or refrigerator would work for those without snow…. or the summertime..
September 22nd, 2012i’ve seen hot-iron cozies for sale, but I like yours better :) love the pillowcase! prarie points are on my list of skills I want to learn - this looks like a great project to jump in and try it out

September 22nd, 2012Dear Clever and riotously funny Monica….This might be a little out of sinc but I wanted you to know how much I enjoyed your picture and interview on Fat Quarter Shop. I wish you well and lots of success with your new fabric design. I love it as I have enjoyed each of your others. You were so yourself in the interview and I laughed at all of your answers to the questions. By the way…how tall are you???? ha ha
