ORIGINAL POST, March 17, 2012:
Whoo whoo - I’ve got another quilt pattern in Quilts and More! Ok, so the Spring 2012 issue has been out for a while - but I do like to wait until I actually see the issue on the newsstand before I blog about it. And here in teenie little Astoria, magazines and mail apparently arrive by pony. If I can find an issue here, I know it’ll be available everywhere and it’s safe to blog about it.

In this Quilts and More issue, is a special “All About White” section devoted to quilts made with prints and white fabric. Three quilts, four designers. Oh yeah, the best part of seeing another one of my patterns published by Quilts and More (which is a thrill on it’s own) - was seeing who else was featured in the All About White feature: Aneela with her Picnic Play quilt, and Team Amazing’s Kate and Sherri with their Double the Fun quilt, and my quilt Taking Turns. Also in the issue is some more project sweetness by more sweeties - Camille, Joanna and Vanessa. BAM, what an issue!

A very fat quarter friendly quilt that’s also large scale fabric friendly. Sometimes I just cringe cutting into fabric, and this pattern is my little way alleviating some of the shear fear I’m constantly stricken with.
Sew Modern has made up a Happy Mochi Yum Yum Taking Turns kit for sale (gotta hurry, I hear they’re almost sold out!), and the BEST FREAKING PART is that you get to DIY your background color from Sew Modern’s complete collection of Robert Kaufman Kona’s. This is like going to a U-pick orchard - but better because it’s quilty and you won’t get mud on your shoes or fall off a rickety ladder. I gasped when I saw Lauren’s (Sew Modern’s awesome momma) blog with the shop sample. I smiled so hard my face hurt. Talk about an OMG moment. All the photos MUST be seen. Go look and then come back. I’ll wait for you.

Here’s a pic I took of my quilt. Sucky photo, so I played around and made it even suckier. Sucky, but it was fun to play around with the settings in iPhoto. And this is why I don’t get stuff done.
I played around with my pattern, and downsized the measurements by half and made a little baby quilt for a cute little Turtle.
The other night at guild, Elsa showed a baby version she made of it, too. A super thrill for me, especially since she made it in Aneela’s fabric.
Also at guild, and this has nothing to do with anything - but look how cute Megan and I were sitting next to each other.
I’m not even going to pretend I’m not begging, so if anyone makes the Taking Turns pattern or uses it to insire their own version like Elsa did - I’d love for (“I’d love for” is code for “I’m begging for”) anyone’s photos to be added to my Happy Zombie HQ flickr group.

March 17th, 2012A friend asked me to teach her to quilt and your pattern, “Taking Turns” is the pattern we choose for her to make. She’s going to make it reversible, using the same pattern on the front and the back. How exciting!!

March 18th, 2012attending a Quilting Retreat this weekend, trying to decide between Funky Wrench and Taking Turns. LOVE them both but….Funky Wrench as stolen my heart. thanks for both patterns and CONGRATULATIONS on being in the magazine!! I’m sure that takes more work than we can imagine. Keep designing (anything)… you ALWAYS make me smile. thanks.
March 19th, 2012Monica, I already made one!! I bought the magazine on a Friday, cut the fabric Saturday morning and sewed the entire top Sunday afternoon. Only quilt in the magazine I’ve made! I’ll add a picture as soon as I get it quilted. I love your idea of downsizing the pieces for a baby quilt - I’ll have to try that next. Wonderful pattern. Deborah
March 19th, 2012Oooh, thanks for showing my version of your quilt on your very own BLOG! I really like this quilt and I’m going to make it again in a bigger version for me!
March 19th, 2012I have seen this issue over the web and didn’t really think anything of it until I saw yours. I am now thinking that I need this issue so that I can make your quilt. I really like the baby one too. You are amazing as always.

March 24th, 2012SO EXCITED!!! I saw your quilt on Pinterest and knew it was the one. I have rethought my daughter’s high school graduation quilt (she’s 25 now…) and now know it will get done. I’ve never made a “real” quilt before and will let you know when this one is DONE!
March 25th, 2012Just wondering if you know where to get the magazine in Canada?
========================
I don’t, Jackie. But hopefully this will help: http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/storefinder/internationalstores.html
March 27th, 2012I have just posted a link to your blog as I love what you do!
Jennie
March 29th, 2012I love the ironing station!! I’m very envious. And love the quilt.
April 1st, 2012Loooove your quilt! I went out and bought the magazine on Tuesday, bought the fabric on Wednesday, and made the top today. I just finished it. Love your pattern, and I’ve discovered that my cutting is almost consistent and my 1/4 inch seams are a little big. It’s so graphic - thanks for making me look good.
April 5th, 2012Hi Monica, having trouble with the block sizes and math adding up correctly for the ‘Taking Turns’ quilt featured in Quilts and More magazine. Page 39, #1 says the white strip should be 2-1/2 by 8-1/2 but shouldn’t it be 2-1/2 by 9-1/2? Trying to make this now so please help.
I’m sorry to hear you’re having problems, Cindy - but the 2½” x 8½” piece in the instructions is correct. You’re joining the 8½” long piece to a unit that’s comprised of 3½” + 2½” + 3½” wide pieces, which equals 8½” when all joined by a ¼” seam. I hope that made sense. Monica
April 16th, 2012Thanks Monica, we figured it out, it was some kind of optical illusion for us but now it’s working fine. Great pattern, the quilt is going to look wonderful!!
April 16th, 2012I love this new pattern! I bought a scrap bag of flannel at a local shop and was wondering what to do with it and now I have my answer! Thank you so much for making things easy to understand :)
May 16th, 2012I saw Taking Turns on a blog (can’t remember whose) and the blogger was using Daisy Cottage fabric for the blocks. I got really inspired, searched the internet for the Quilts and More spring issue. Found it on Ebay, ordered it and it’s sitting here by my chair as I type this. Seriously considering using Bari J.’s new Lilly Belle Warm Sunset fabric for the quilt. I’ll get a pic to you when I make the quilt. I’m a newbie,so it might be a couple of years! heehee Love the pattern! Love your site! Love you! :)
June 15th, 2012Is there any way to buy the taking turns quilt pattern?
January 4th, 2013I have not been able to track down a copy of the Spring 2012 edition of Quilts and More. Is there anywhere else I can purchase the pattern?
==============
I’m working on a PDF pattern that I hope to have for sale by the end of the week. Stay tuned!
