A bari wonderful give-away!

February 8th, 2011

I’m so honored to be caboose’n the last day of Bari’s Inspired to Sew Book Blog Tour! I’m just honored to be a part of it, period!  Bari is giving a copy of her beautiful book to one lucky person on my blog - and all you have to do is leave me a comment.  If you’d like to mention what INSPIRES you TO SEW in your comment… please do!

I’m inspired to sew when I see something, and think how much more I’d love it if I made it myself.  I also feel empowered if I make something myself.  I think people who cook feel the same way - there’s a very nurturing quality about making stuff, especially if it’s for someone else. Reason #126 why I love Bari’s new book… it’s not just drop dead gorgeous… but all the projects in her book are something I want to make - to make for others.  Like Bari’s tea-cozy… it’s something I might be able to buy ready-made - but not even close to as pretty as Bari’s projects.  Plus after I make them they’re infused with love - that’s something that can’t be bought.

I love this tea set… cozy, pad and teabag.  It just screams to me to make it - and then have friends over for tea.   Not just sewing projects… but little projects that make doing something all the more fun, and with friends.  The little tea projects are sew-cial treats!

There’s lots, lots, lots more inside the beautiful pages of Inspired to Sew - and a copy could be yours!  Leave me a comment by midnight PST Thursday, February 10, 2011 and one lucky name will be drawn.  If you haven’t already, be sure to travel back in time to stop by and visit the other blogs on the tour.  WOW… look at this list-o-greatness I’m with!

January 31: Mary Abreu - Confessions of a Craft Addict

February 1: Jennifer Paganelli - Sis Boom

  6. The fabulous CraftyCripple allegedly said:

A lot of my inspiration comes from need. I need a new bag, or a need a new purse, so I decide to make one that works with my needs. I really ought to work on duplicating my sewing projects, so that I can develop designs and work out the “perfect” item.

What a beautiful book! I can’t wait to check out the other blogs too.
I was going to write that what inspires me to sew is the ability to customize anything. But then I realized that what it is, is the feeling when I am done. I feel creative, empowered and satisfied. I have so little time with 2 kids 2 and under to do anything for myself that 15 minutes of sewing can completly change my attitude for the day or week. I just love it!

I’m a SAHM to two girls who are now 12 and 13 and I’ve always been home with them no matter how many times I’ve tried to go to work outside the home. Quilting keeps me able to at least feel like I’m contributing to our household, while keeping the TV off during the daytime, if you know what I mean ;) I do a little of the craft show circut each year, have my shop on etay, and for 12 years have run an annual Christmas Open House. No idle time for this momma! And now that my girls are into
yearbook, leadership, and basketball, it’s nice to have the option to apways take a little project along when I’m running them here and there. Win-win, right? Sorry, long answer!

    Hugs, Kimberly

I was inspired to start sewing again by my youngest sister about 5 years ago. She wanted to do a Sister Round Robin. We (4 sisters) live in 4 different states, but we keep connected through our round robins & block exchanges. All the beautiful fabric out there keeps me motivated now.

Honestly, my inspiration is writing. I am a grantwriter and I find that if, when I have a bit of writer’s block, I do something else creative, but totally different (sewing, playing piano, etc), it totally opens up and the words flow.

Hmm. Wonder if I can claim those sewing hours as work hours? lol

Inspiration? I couldn’t even tell you! I’m inspired by everything! My brain runs on some kind of ‘artsy’ setting. I walk around taking beautiful photos of the world around me in my mind, I make my own music videos with the songs on the radio, I see people’s clothes, change them a little and make a whole new outfit in my head. It’s a real shame I can’t funnel ideas from my brain directly to my sewing machine because that would be MUCH easier! I’m inspired by everything. Every color, every person, every shop window, every restaurant, every…thing. My brain runs on art and I love it. I can’t imagine any other way!

Farting around with needle & thread and then blogging about it.
