I’ve never done so much sewing and un-sewing - then I have in the last few weeks. That didn’t come out right. I’ve never done so much sewing and un-sewing WHILE NOT ONLINE - then I have in the last few weeks. My in-box, my blog pals visiting, my Twitter, my Words With Friends, my Face-what?… all neglected. To be fair, I neglect Facebook regardless of sewing. I feel like a such a sucky friend. A super duper sucky friend.
I feel so out of it, so disconnected. Like I’m down in one of those holes on Lost - and everyone else is up top… laughing, having fun, eating Dharma peaches out of a can - and I’m down in the hole glued by the magnetic force that emanates from my sewing machine - the evil clock clicks, clicks, clicks… mocking me. The Smoke Monster is actually the exhaust coming out the back of my sewing machine. Ooops, sorry. Spoiler alert.
I’m leaving for Quilt Market in a week. I’m actually looking forward to the flight - to sitting and doing nothing. I think I’ll load up my iphone with a couple of Gilmore Girls episodes. Maybe four episodes should do me between Seattle and Minneapolis? Maybe I’ll get lucky and catch an episode of Lorelai sewing. I think I’ll loop the scene and watch over and over and over - watching someone else sewing. And then I’d be wishing to be sewing too. Because I heart sewing. And these are the inner workings of my absurd universe.

so that is what the smoke monster has been all this time?? i never would have guessed! oh well lost just makes me mad right now anyway… anywho all the sewing will pay off at market.. i’m sure!!!
May 12th, 2010Poor thing :-( My only hestitation in turning my passion into a business was exactly what you are describing now. Sewing and quilting are only suppose to be fun, right…right??? Hang on another week, then the fun will begin!

May 12th, 2010Sewing machine smoke - yikes. I had an imac a couple of years ago that let out a belch of smoke and the stench of burning plastic. Disconcerting.

May 12th, 2010That Lorelai sure had a way with the sewing machine didn’t she? I love that show and hated to see it end, but I have all the DVDs and someday I am going to sit down and quilt while watching every single one of them. Have fun at market. My husband and I went to the Huston market when we had our quilt shop. So much to see and do.
May 12th, 2010Sounds nuts but fun too! Is that little Holiday Happy bag for me? It is right? Oh it’s so cute! I remember that feeling you described, being alone on the plane…I felt like that when my kids were little and I had to go to the dentist. I had all that time to SIT and do nothing! LOL

May 12th, 2010You just need to enter your Parallel {not absurd} universe and talk a slow walk in Stars Hollow, have some coffee and that diner food that always looks good and chant “Oy with the poodles already” - don’t worry Grasshopper, you will understand that chant of wisdom when you get to that Gilmore Girls episode….ohmmmmmmmmmm. Seriously, we all love your talent and can’t wait to see what you have made!

I have been doing other kinds of work though and I hate flying but can’t wait for the plane ride either because it is the time to breathe in between the moments of madness. I wonder what I should take to watch on my laptop. Or what drug I should take to sleep from Utah to Minneapolis?

I picture it like this …. the wicked step mother has you locked in the castle tower until you are finished with all of that sewing (because she knows you work best under pressure including the pressure you feel because your bladder is about to explode …. there isn’t a bathroom up there in the tower)…..meanwhile you let down your long hair so the delivery guy can tie on another shipment of Depends, Twinkies, and diet coke …… you haul up your supplies and get back to work and finish all of your sewing in plenty of time ….. and they lived happily ever after! The End. (Good luck and have fun at Market!)

Monica, thank you so much for the free pattern. I love your fabric so much that even though I have told myself I am not going to buy anymore Christmasy fabric, if I don’t get some of yours I will cry. It has really got my imagination going with all that I could do with it. You are a dear and if this is any indication of your talent as a fabric designer, I sure hope you keep doing it!
