Oh summer. Oh summer. Oh eight posts in one.
July 23rd, 2009
I feel like my summer so far has me sitting on a bus-stop bench, while my friends whiz by me on to their super cool destinations. Damn bus… where are you - I want to catch up with everyone! Ok, maybe it’s best I don’t get on that bus… we just sped through 5 GLORIOUS seasons of *Six Feet Under - maybe I should keep a safe distance from buses. But sadly, now after all that 6′U watching… I’m saying “shit” excessively - all in the hopes that I’ll hear Ruth Fisher trumpet, “LANGUAGE!”.
More summer fun to come, but this is what I’ve been up to so far:
=NOSHING=
Five Guys. LOVE THEM. Seeing Prez-O’s OTR lunch on Inside the Obama White House had me drooling. We discovered a Five Guys in Beaverton, Oregon and fell in love. As did my Al Roker head. Instantaneously… fell. In. Love. It’s not In-n-Out… but it’s a fantastic stand-in. I have no idea what the peanut thing is all about. I’m guessing there was a sixth guy, had a falling out, now disgruntled, super allergic to peanuts - peanuts are positioned at the entrance to keep Guy6 out. Just guessing.
=VISITING=
Early one Thursday…
From up the coast comes dear sweet Sarah and her delightful girls “Priscilla” and “Lil Sis” - who arrive in HappyZombie Heights on the most beautiful Oregon Coast kinda day. It wasn’t raining.
Tea.
Redwork Club.
AnnaLenaLand.
Wet Dog.
Elvis.
It was a magical day and I hated for it to end. The charming Lt. AnyoneCanQuilt and weinerific Miss Cowgirl Rosie came up too. It was a fun filled day with the AnyoneCanQuilt’s, and they are THE most wonderful family ever. EVER. Sarah has gorgeous photos and words here and here. Only one thing was missing from our great day - and that was having our third member of our Team LeFleur there too.
Tea time = blogging time.
Sarah blogging my Shelf-o-Joy (me pretending to be a newspaper reporter/photog… reporting the Royal Visitors).
Sarah sewed here. Ok, pretended.
=MIDSOMMER=
The Midsummer Scandinavian Festival in Astoria. I can never get enough pickled herring. Or the Dane’s and their use of Lego people.
Or Krumkake.
Or the national costumes and the music.
Even though we are “Southern Scandinavian’s” during ScanFest weekend… DS representin’ the DE in the Scandia Haus.
=INTERMISSION=
Let’s all go to the lobby to get ourselves a treat. Mmmm. Flower Sugar. Soooooooooo tasty.
=PITTER PATTER=
Señorita Melvita de la Frita, aka Mel. Two new little feet pattering around (and freaking out my dog Madison - just hearing the click of her eyes makes her shake). I did it. I finally bought a full size Blythe. I kinda blame that silly lil’ Doe, I kinda blame Sarah.
But I’m so happy I took the Blythe (full size) plunge. Triskit not so much. Someone’s jealous.
I’m having a blast making clothes.
The real reason I bought Mel.
Sew fun.
=iPhone FUN=
I killed my old iPhone. Not on purpose. But ironically, it biffed on the day the 3G’s were released. So now I’m doing the whole 365 flickr thing, via my new iPhone. I’m only on day six. Shit. [Ruth: “Language”]. Crap. Three hundred and fifty-nine more days to go.
=SNEAKY PEAKIES=
I’ve been sewing - as usual, top secret stuff that won’t be seen until much, much later. This was a project I was asked to make. Something WAAAAAY out of my realm of reality. Itching to say what it is, but once it’s seen… people who know me will say, “You designed that… why?” But I’m super happy with the way it turned out, and especially love my fabric choices.
Jennifer Paganelli’s “Dance with Me” by Free Spirit.
Lila Tueller’s “Santorini” by Moda.
=PACKING & PLANNING=
I see In-n-Out’s in my future plans. And now I must nap.
*The house and property used for Ruth’s sister’s character in 6′U.. that’s my dream home/dream property/dream landscaping. Just putting that out there in case the universe is reading my blog.

No fair!! You’re having a fun summer (while I get a root canal)! I may have to make a desperate trip up there to escape the heat and regain my sanity. Everything looks dreamy!

July 23rd, 2009Seems like you are having a fun filled summer, regardless of all the buses passing you by….. whiz! Five Guys is the best. We have one only 10 minutes from our house, YAY for me. In fact we had lunch there on tuesday a little cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, pickles, ketchup, grilled mushrooms, and grilled onions. The BOMB! Yum! By the way, you must try their hot dogs, they are fantastic!!! With the works!
July 23rd, 2009We did the 5-season 6 Feet Under last Fall and we were so sad to come to the end. I might be ready to do it all again soon.
I think I had dibs on Ruth’s sister’s house first.

I almost got to go to Farmhouse today, but had my grandson today. You probably got to go, huh? I’ve lived in Clatskanie all my life, was BORN in Astoria, and never gone to the Scandinavian festival; except the Finn one in Naselle. Have a great weekend, and don’t send us any rain lol. Karen

By the way, watch your LANGUAGE. :) I can’t believe there’s a Five Guys out there! Some friends here introduced us to these guys and WOW. So delicious. I was totally addicted to Six Feet Under! It was the strangest show, but the only one I just HAD to see every week, even though it ran again later in the week. What characters!
Thanks so much for the summer tour — looks like you’ve been really busy! Can’t wait to see your secret project.
July 26th, 2009Awesome catch up post! I cannot wait to see what you are doing with Flower Sugar! I have that yellow Jennifer P. fabric…haven’t done anything with it yet, I hate to cut into it! Your pics are sooo pretty, as usual. Congrats on the new doll, very nice dresses!
July 27th, 2009Oh BooHoo….I missed the Team LeFleur gathering darn it! While you girls were sewing and yucking it up, I was tending to the home fires — we can’t all be playing all the time. Someone has to … well, you know.
Can’t wait to see the yummy new projects. Love the new Blythe dresses…very, very cute!!!
July 28th, 2009Great pictures! Love all the fabric choices.
We have a 5 guys here in Central Florida. But, I haven’t made a visit yet.
I hope the rest of your summer is lovely.
July 29th, 2009How did I miss this post from a week ago? Sheesh I’m seriously slipping or my google reader is. Sarah is darling. Cute and super talented. Like you. Flower Sugar. I’m about to get diabetes from it I’m afraid. I used it this week and last and now I’m needing more of it IV. Straight up. I keep singing “lets all go to the lobby, lets all go to the lobby . . .” since reading that caption about intermission. Uh oh. Now I want some Dots! That is what I think Flower Sugar must taste like. Ok. This was a strange comment. Forgive me. I had an allergic reaction this morning to a medication I’ve taken in the past and now I’m on benadryl. Holy Cow I make no sense.
July 30th, 2009Yikes. I just reread my comment. Waiting for men in white coats.

July 30th, 2009Well you better ask them to make room for one more… I’m so with you - and I’m not even taking anything! xo,m
I so enjoy reading your blog. I’m disappointed when I go to it and there’s no new entry. Your pictures and work are beautiful and you are full of life.
