Getting my blog-groove back on
June 23rd, 2009
We’ve been having a jam packed summer so far - so jammed that my desktop holds over half a dozen folders of “blog food” ready to be blogged. Waiting to be uploaded and chatted up.
So many words.
So many photos.
So many friend adventures.
So much to say.
So much to document before my fleeting memory *fleets up*.
The beginning of June ushered in DS2’s graduation from Astoria High School. First came Awards Night at the Liberty Theater in Astoria. A whopping 1.67 million dollars was awarded in scholarships. About 120 graduates ÷ by 1.67 mil = an S-load of scholarship money per student!
DS2 receives his generous scholarship check from Astoria High School Scholarships Inc. Thank you AHSS, Inc.!
Graduation took place in The Brick House - the Astoria High School gym… and only a few hours after the AHS boys baseball team took the 4A state championship title. Great speeches and presentations, and not a dry eye in the house.
After much waiting, it must have seemed like 4 years for the balloons to finally drop.
La Familia. Left to right> Me, DS2, T-man and DS1 (who came all the way from Australia). Just YESTERDAY (10 years ago) we were standing in this same position as DS1 graduated from Moanalua High School. T-man and I appeared to be much taller back then - I’m having a hard time accepting that my 6′+ babies are grown up now.
And this is Stomp (the Fighting Fishermen)… the Astoria High School mascot. I think he looks like a Scooby-Doo villain, myself. And he’s saying…
“You damn meddling kids… who said you could grow up so fast… and make your mommas cry with pride.”
Yes. I think that’s exactly what he’s saying.

My daughter just graduated a couple of weeks ago… I feel your pain! Why do we cry when we’re so happy and proud??? And I’ve still got to go through this again…one more time…four years from now!
June 23rd, 2009I’m a graduate from Radford H.S. myself. It’s been well 15 years, though. I didn’t realize you had Hawaii ties, but now it makes reading your blog extra special. Congratulations to your youngest and to the parent’s for a job well done!

Horray for your precious boy!!! Auntie #3 is so proud. What a gorgeous place for the graduation. Astoria is full of gorgeous old buildings. I feel like I was just there… four days ago… (wistful look, one tear…sniff sniff) xoxo
June 23rd, 2009My daughter just completed her first year of preschool! High school seems so far away but I know it will be here before I even know it.
June 23rd, 2009Gosh, I was starting to wonder about you! Glad it’s all good stuff going on. Congratulations to the family! :-)
June 23rd, 2009Awww….what a wonderful family pic! Glad to see you back in action!
June 23rd, 2009What a great post, it is amazing how fast they grow! I have three years until my oldest takes the walk, I don’t think I will ever be ready, she is my quilting buddy and I am dreading sending her off into the world, my mind say that this is the natural order of things, my hears sing NO..
June 23rd, 2009Wow, now I am gonna cry, gotta go…
Gin
Aw how sweet. I had a graduate this year too. I keep thinking I’ll post pictures when I get her quilt done. It isn’t done yet! I’m just as behind as you are, maybe more so!
June 23rd, 2009Oh my gosh! Congrats are in order! Thank God for the scholarship, makes it just ever so much easier on the wallet. That is really why there were tears, right???
June 23rd, 2009You and your husband must be just bursting with pride, Monica. Congratulations to your son for earning a scholarship. That’s quite an achievement!
June 23rd, 2009Love that scholarship moola…congrats and all that!
June 23rd, 2009Monica, what a good-looking family you have! :-) You must be so proud of your son, and WOW! That is a lot of scholarship money! Some generous benefactors there! What are his plans for next year?
Where has the time gone? My youngest is finishing Kindergarten this week, and I am sad to see that end. Next year both kids will be in school full-time. I’ll miss my mommy and son errands, story-times, playdates, etc. *sniff*
Anyway, I digress. Congrats to you and the fam, and I’m glad you’re enjoying your summer!! Love,
June 23rd, 2009Jen
Wow, what great pictures! You should be missing more often!!! LOL!!! I’ve been missing too for awhile, but now, I’m all caught up! It’s wonderful!!!
June 23rd, 2009Just curious–were their robes that blue or is it my computer? I’m so used to seeing purple for the Fishermen! Great photography though! So happy to see you are back!
June 23rd, 2009WooHoo! Congratulations SW#1 — to DS2 and your whole family. Very exciting stuff! Now, may the summer be subdued and full of time for you to grace us with your presence!!!
June 23rd, 2009Congrats to your graduate! My DD#2 graduates from high school on Sunday - so I feel your pain. They really do grow up so fast. And BTW, I agree that the school mascot looks like a Scooby Do villain.
June 23rd, 2009(sniff sniff) ….congratulations Mama bird …. how dare those darn baby birds grow up so fast and leave the nest before we’re ready !!!! I know just how you feel ….. I was a blubbering mess last year at Kid #1’s HS graduation ….. they’ll have to take me out in a straight jacket in 2 years when Kid #2 graduates (he’ll be dragging me along with him as he goes up for his diploma because I’ll be on the floor hanging on to his ankles and sobbing “you can’t be graduating already?!?!! I’m not old enough to have my baby graduating from high school !!!!”)

Wow could the TMan look any prouder?? I think not. I love all the photos and am so happy for DS2!!!! You have a lot to be proud of! You’ll have to send me the top two photos… my computer won’t show them to me.. or it could be my crappy internet provider. ACFtastic.
June 23rd, 2009I scared it and I saw the pictures!! yeah!
June 23rd, 2009Your boys are so handsome. Isn’t it weird to have your babies all grown up?? I hate it sometimes. Looks like the weather and graduation were perfect! xob hugs and love to you all!!!! :)
June 24th, 2009Congratulations!
It is sad that they have to grow up so fast. It seems like once they get in High School, time flies. My youngest one will graduate in two years. Okay. I better stop talking about it or I’ll cry!
Glad you’re gradually making it back to blogland. I’ve missed you.

June 24th, 2009Congrats to your DS2! So very cool and that scholarship is the icing on the cupcake. High 5 him for me!
Bet it was awesome having your oldest and his family around for a few days. Hard to see them flying away.
Busy summer here too. Dustin home, Riff gone (working out of town for most of the summer). But wait, I’m looking out the window and it seems that fall has arrived to the north coast. Well that means Riff should be home soon….
June 24th, 2009What a nice familia photo Monica. I know how you feel with the 6 ft plus boys. I think we are just shrinking really.
June 24th, 2009Congrats to your son!! And how nice of your other son to come all the way from Australia.

June 24th, 2009Great Family Photo! Were headed your way. Hope we can stop and see you all. We’ll be in Astoria from 7/18 - 7/21. DS2 looks so grown up. I can’t wait for Mark to see how much Chloe has grown in the past 6mths. Not so sure I’m as anxious about him seeing how much I’ve GROWN! Big BABY Belly these days.
June 25th, 2009Awww…how sweet Monica - and you remember when not too long ago you were changing their diapers? How proud a momma you must be - and such handsome young men! Love the school mascot - hmmm….fighting fisherman - must have been that giant squid!!
June 26th, 2009Cheers!
A giant conrats to your big guy!!! So exciting and so many emotions rolled together. Great family photo. Isn’t it so amazing how they grow up so fast?!

June 28th, 2009Wow! What wonderful boys you have. Congratulations to them and to you for doing such a fantastic job raising them.
June 28th, 2009congrats to the kiddo!
June 29th, 2009mine are all still ankle biters and sometimes i can’t wait till they are that age…but then i have everyone tell me that wont be the case when you get there. you’ll wish they were ankle biters again.
i’ll believe you that that’s how i will feel as i’m elbow deep in toilet water cleaning out another accident from panties as i’m trying to potty train the last child.
poop sucks.
How quickly the years fly by! My oldest DS is 39 and the baby DD is a practicing lawyer of 26! In between is DD1 at 36 with the cutest baby girl of 14 months. I watch her running and climbing and have to shed a few tears for how fast her 1st year came and went. Hope the whole family celebrated with style! Lots more to come for you and your husband.
June 29th, 2009Your boys are sooooooooo handsome! But Stomp can’t hold a candle to Oscar the Fisherman in the cuteness department. I can still remember all the words to “We’re a Bunch of Fishermen” from my days at IHS. Perhaps Karen and I could sing you a duet one of these days.
