All “SEWN” up launch party & giveaway!
June 4th, 2009
A better title more suited for me… “It’s a party and I’m late again!”
Getting in just under the wire, and only 4 days left until SEWN goes live… I add my giveaway to the party. Better late then never, right? Graduation, family visiting from Australia and the Bay Area, family projects, mag project… busy times at Casa de Zombie this month. Thanks to my publicist slash cheerleader slash personal secretary slash cosmic twin PamKittyMorning for getting me in on Sarah’s new SEWN launch party. Sarah, as in sweet and amazing Sarah Fielke of The Last Piece - she’s a quilter, a teacher, a designer and author of “Material Obsession” and “Material Obsession Two: Shared Inspiration”. And she’s an Aussie (20 bonus cool points - oi, oi, oi).
To celebrate the SEWN launch party, I’m giving away this little doll I made from a slightly modified Inside A Black Apple doll pattern (which can be found at Martha Stewart). Thanks to Jenny for getting me on the doll kick! If you’d like to have your own give-away and join the launch party or see who else is having a give-away for the launch, you can do so here.
Dolly has no name. Yet. That’s up to the winner. All you have to do is leave a comment - telling me what you’d name her (and why if you want, because I’m nosey like that) - by 2pm PST on June 8th, 2009. I will pick a winner by the name I like best… but if I like them all (and chances are I will, this being such a creative community)… I will use random.org to pick the winner. I have a hunch I’ll be using the latter. I’ll announce the winner shortly after 2pm PST (or when I get back from dropping DS1 off at the airport for his flight back to Oz).
Dolly is dressed in Lecien’s “Antique Flower Collection” for her body and Urban Chicks Swell #31027-12 for her legs. Her hair is from my stash - and to my best knowledge it’s a Maywood Studio piece. Any guesses?
Dolly’s bio: Dolly is an out-door adventure girl, likes to sew, take short walks on a long beach, watch copious amounts of tv, has a crush on Jack (sorry Cricket InTheBox) and Joel McHale, and most of all… she likes to sleep in late. Sorry… little spring action Beanie Jack not included (unless I go to JITB and can snag another one). I do need me a 2/99¢ taco fix…

She is adorable! I’ll say Betty Blue Eyes - because I’m just not good at names. I can hardly wait to see the other names that people come up with.
June 4th, 2009Awww - isn’t her SOOO cute?? My favorite dolly as a very young girl was Ruthie. She had that hair that stuck up straight out of her head, and just one flowery dress that I loved (probably to death!) I finally gave up Ruthie when I was all “grown up” around the age of 11. I remember donating her to a little girl that I babysat, whom I am assuming loved dear Ruthie as much as I had.
Sooo, was that long enough?
What would I name her if I win her?
Ruthie!!
;)
June 4th, 2009Thanks much for allowing us to play!
Betsy
O.K. I must have her! She’s oh gosh so darn cute! And she’d go perfect with my new monkey! Ah! My new monkey. I haven’t posted about her yet! Must do that. I would name her Sofia. She just looks like a Sofia to me. ooxx`jodi
June 4th, 2009I like Rue - she reminds me of Rue McClanahan, only with black hair!
June 4th, 2009She looks like a Petunia to me…
June 4th, 2009This dolly is so sweet. My girls would be fighting over her. They would name her Lollylegs because of her stripey stockings/legs!
June 4th, 2009I think a good name would be something that has a hint of spring like Olivia Rose. She is just beautiful!
June 4th, 2009her name is SWANKY Shenandoah.
June 4th, 2009and she’s going to vegas.
she’s got the goody good girl thing going for her.
she’ll be a hit.
oh you know you love it.
Oh cute! Love that dolly. I’d name her “Hello Monica” — to remind me of her creator and her creator’s favorite Kitty (right?).
June 4th, 2009What a cute doll. My daughter would love to play with her but maybe the doll would be better off on a very high shelf. How about Countess Cherry for a name?
June 4th, 2009Isn’t she adorable! For some reason the name Penelope jumped into my head. I think that name is part feminine and part spunky. I have two boys and one daughter. My two-yr old daughter is my one feminine outlet and I would love to have something so special for her. Your work on that doll is tremendous!
June 4th, 2009I would name this doll Rachel….if my son would have been a girl that is what the name would have been…cute doll, I have made one of these before…little tricky turning the arms/legs inside out!! CUTE!
June 4th, 2009I would name her princess camille. because my daughter loves dolls, and her birthday is june 11th. she sure would love that doll!!!
June 4th, 2009oops, her name is camille, my daughter and my email on the last link is wrong. it is luv2knitnsew@gmail.com
June 4th, 2009Sweet giveaway! ‘Looby Lou’ is the first name that pops into my head. But then maybe ‘Jemima’ after the dolly on Australia’s ‘Play School’ that all we Aussie girls grew up with! She reminds me of her. Please get your name in on my SEWN giveaway, if the prize appeals! Best wishes, Bloom.
June 4th, 2009She is most definitely a Chloe. Doesn’t she look like a sweet little French girl with her rosy dress and those adorable stripey legs? She would be best friends with Madeline at the girls school! : )
June 4th, 2009The name I would choose for Dolly is Amosandra - the name of my only doll when I was little.
June 4th, 2009I’d name her “Eleanor” after my great-aunty whose beautiful handwork inspires me every day. Ohh please please pick me, she’s so lovely.
June 4th, 2009MaryBell! Don’t know why, but that’s the first thing I thought of when I saw her smiling face.
June 4th, 2009i’d totally name her margene.
and you SO know why.
mmkkayyy.
:)
June 4th, 2009I think her name should be Ellie Begonia. If you don’t name her this, I shall name my next cat Ellie Begonia. Like I need another cat.
She’s a very cute little doll!
June 4th, 2009I would name her Miss Scruffle Jellybean Mohan, named after my little grand daughter who is to arrive in october, her name is jellybean mohan so far,,,,,,,,,and this little lady would make a great first baby doll for her crib and her…..
Shes adorable,,,,,
June 4th, 2009I’d name her Lulu Belle.
June 4th, 2009She kinda looks like me when I was a little girl and that’s what my mom used to call me. :)
How about “Majorie”? We have an endless beach, my husband watches endless TV, I sleep late, but get up early enough to sew before it gets too warm, and there is in residence - a collection of “Jacks” so I suppose she could have her choice of the boys…..Thanks for the opportunity…S
June 4th, 2009I would name her Gigi.
June 4th, 2009Thanks for a chance to win the sweet darling.
She’s darling! I would name her Amelie, because she has the exact hair-do that Audrey Tautou had in the movie Amelie…. and, I loved that movie! Amelie was whimsical, charming and sweet, just like that beautiful doll.
Hugs,
June 4th, 2009Shannon
Your dolly is such a cutie pie, love her to bits. I thought of several names: Pixie B, Bess, and then ater looking at her for awhile, Betty Lou, came to mind and it stuck. Something about her face and her collar made that name come to mind and for me, it fits her well. If I win her, I will name her Betty Lou, and she can sleep in as late as she’d like. I am so glad she loves the beach because I do as well. Woo Hoo we can hunt for shells together and throw bread out for the Gulls.
Outdoor adventure is my nature through and through. Especially during the Spring and Summer months.
Thanks for holding a sweet giveaway. How fun! Please sign me up.

June 4th, 2009The flower. Make it one word. TheFlower. In French. There’s just no need to make any explanations.
June 4th, 2009I’d call her Pixie because of that cute little hair cut! Although I think she kinda looks like Natalie Portman :)
June 4th, 2009I would name her Katie June Bug. She is a sweetie. Thanks for the giveaway!
June 4th, 2009Aww! I’m expecting right now, and this could be her first doll! I would pick paisley as her name, because that is the name I am stuck on right now; but my husband isn’t going to let me use it!
June 4th, 2009Hi Monica,
June 4th, 2009I would name her Therese. That sounds French because she looks like a little French girl and on the other hand it sounds so oldfashioned German. I do love these oldfashioned names and something like that would fit to her perfectly. Although she looks like a ver trendy girl with her Lecien clothing. It´s the contrast of this both.
Hab einen wunderschönen Tag und viele Grüße von mir!
Sabine
all of these people are wrong - her name is MABEL because she looks like my Auntie Mabel … and because i said so … and she wants to live with ME!!!
June 4th, 2009Are you kidding?!?!?!! Those piercing BLUE EYES, that jet black Cleopatra hair …..that’s just GOT to be none other than LIZ …. LIZ TAYLOR -ZOMBIE (since she likes to sew besides being a knock out gorgeous babe ….. )
June 4th, 2009She is Gorgeous! and therefore her name *should* be Audrey….. I don’t know why, It’s just what I thought when I saw her! Thanks for the giveaway, I’m having one too!
June 4th, 2009I just love the name Sara Elizabeth! She looks like a Sara to me. Thanks for the giveaway.

June 4th, 2009The only doll I remember as a child was named Jenny…my name, but for this little darling I would name her Colette.. . She looks french to me and sweet as her button eyes.

June 4th, 2009LOL at Kelly! The second I saw her the name Audrey popped into my head!

I’m gonna go with POLLY! Definitely the name of a curious and adventurous little girl, which she seems to be.
Polly the Dolly.
That’s my final answer.
June 4th, 2009Aw, she looks like a Darla to me ‘cuz she resembles Darla from “Our Gang” aka “Little Rascals”…love those kids.

June 5th, 2009I think the Niki suits her
June 5th, 2009Well of course I would name her Monica! Wouldn’t you??
June 5th, 2009Well the first thing that came to my mind and won’t leave is “Rosie” - I think it’s because I have this gorgeous niece with a big mop of black curls, and this doll just reminds me of her! In all actuality though, I’m sure I’d give her to my daughter (maybe save her for her 9th birthday coming up!) and let her name her:)
June 5th, 2009She looks like a Francine to me.
She is too cute!
June 5th, 2009Hilde… after my Grandmother, who also liked to walk on the beach, sew and watch t.v! She’d have liked the floral fabric too…
Plus, the name Hilde works well with the names Tilly and Annie (our other dolls in residence!
Pick me! I have 3 daughters and only two dollies! :) Thanks for the giveaway! She’s really great.
June 5th, 2009Hmmmm….I’m thinking Eliza. She’s pretty sweet.

June 5th, 2009I would name her Ally because she is as cute as my little niece Alicia.
June 5th, 2009Oh my nerves and stars, how freakin’ CUTE is she?! Her name is definitely Polly! Her business card would read: Polly T. Dolly (her middle name is The). And she’s a Lolly-maker. Sometimes, when Polly doesn’t feel like making lollies, she lolligags around the house, looking for other things to do, such as playing volleyball, watching a movie on Tevo like WallE, or chatting on her iPhone with her good, good friend, Molly. Oh, by gosh, by golly, how we all love Polly T. Dolly! xo
June 5th, 2009I would name her Gretchen! One of my first bosses name was Gretchen (at the Limited back in high school) and she had a super cute short dark hair like your dolly’s. Love the doll, thanks for the chance to win!
June 5th, 2009Well she looks all buttoned up to me like the librarian in “The Music Man”, Marion. So I’ll name her Marion.
June 5th, 2009I’d name her Petula. I have no idea where that came from but I think it’s cute like she is.
June 5th, 2009I love her Monica!!! I think her name should be Francesca Holiday. I will be there to pick her up around…oh say… the 18th perhaps? hehe xoxo
June 5th, 2009What a cute cloth doll. I would name her Glady after our youngest grandgirl with black hair. Also a namesake for my dear mother in law also with the black hair. Thanks for a chance to win.
June 5th, 2009I would call her “Constance”, she just looks like a Constance, and her past times are decidedly 50’s as I imagine the name to be!!
She is absolutely lovely and Scarlett my little girl would love her!! (She’s a little dolly obssesed at the mo and the hand-made ones are her faves, her fave is a knitted raggy doll I made her called Bella.)

T xxx
June 5th, 2009Oh I think she should be called “Liza” with eyes like that and ‘that’ hairdo she reminds me of Liza Minelli (trying to think of who she played in Chicago, but too early for brain to kick in, so would name her that maybe.. roxy??? was it roxy????)

June 5th, 2009The dolly is so adorable, I would name her Swish. haha I’m not very creative.
My first thought was that she looked like a”Betty” to me, but when I saw the comments, the first name that popped out was Betty Blue Eyes!
Didn’t want to duplicate the name, so I went back to look at the picture. Changed my mind and would like to submit Betsy Buttons!
She’s a cutie - thank you for gifting her!

thanks for the chance to win, great blog BTW.
I can definately see that even with the dark hair disguise, she is a mini-Monica and I’m hoping that whoever the lucky winner is knows that their house is going to explode with personality when their sweet dolly arrives. She’s adorable! LOVING that she likes to take short walks on a very long beach!
June 6th, 2009I think she should be Dillie Emmaline - in honor of my Great Grandmother who was the sweetest person on the face of the earth. I miss her very much.
June 6th, 2009Oh Belinda, just because!
June 6th, 2009I would call her ‘Matilda’ as she reminds me of my gorgeous 2 year old neice who has a shock of dark hair and pale skin and her mother always dresses her in divine little dresses. Thanks for the chance to win her!!
June 6th, 2009when i saw her, i wanted to call her Adeline S. (Sewn) bcoz of her dress.

June 7th, 2009she is LOVELY!
mm, i think i’d name her clara. i’ve always loved that name, and her pretty black hair framing her face reminds me of silent film star clara bow (whose hair was actually red, but since movies then were b&w, it looked darker!).
thank you so much for the chance to win!
June 7th, 2009yay! I’m number 81 to comment! my lucky number! I’d name her Molly Dolly, she looks just so sweet and cute and she would watch me sew in my sewing room!
June 7th, 2009Her name of course is: Wilhemina! Here is why: because there is an old photograph (circa 1920’s) of a lovely young woman on the silive.com website in the obituaries section. I grew up in SI, NY but no longer live there — however, each Saturday I go to the silive.com website (Staten Island Advance) to see what’s going on there. This past Saturday, I browsed through the obits section and commented to my hubby as to why some have pictures in them that are 50+ years old. I guess this was a personal favorite of this particular woman — and also a very lovely picture. Anyhoo, I think your dolly is just as lovely and would be even happier if you knew her real name: Wilhemina, of course! :-) P.S. I will send the link to you upon request.
June 7th, 2009my vote: cherry poppins! i do love her so. thanks for the opportunity! ;)

June 7th, 2009I think she should be called Rosie.
June 7th, 2009I would name her Shirley as in Laverne and…
