Holy SNOW!
December 15th, 2008
Sunday morning I yanked open my bedroom curtains… and I found this! I shouted HOLY SNOW (actually, it sounded more like HOLY MITten). Why oh why did I not get a jump on Pam and Elizabeth’s DARLING mitten/scarf/hat project!?!
I looked to my left and saw this. We’re not in snow country, so this is an extra special treat. I think Angelina, Paula and Sarah agree! And the snow hides all the bird poop that adorns my bench. Nice snow. Nice snow. Thank you snow. Thank you British Columbia for sending us your wonderful snow producing arctic air.
I ran to the living room, and all I could see outside of the windows was white delight. Laugh at me Minnesota or Michigan peeps. Ga head, laugh at me. I love this snowfall too much!
My happy little corner, some eggnog and snuggling up to some embroidering/finishing holiday projects.
Before I sat down in my happy little corner… my fascination with looking out of my kitchen window had to be clicked. Too worried about meltage, I dissed the dishes. At least they were rinsed.
Poof. No more dirty dishes. Ha… I need to crop the rest of my house.
My husband was not interested in happy little corners or eggnog. He wanted to hop in his truck and see the snow beyond our neck of the woods. My jammies went flying and I got dressed in 2 seconds flat. I’m ready!
This is our bridge that links us to our next door neighbor… Washington state. Some people refer to this bridge as the Astoria-Megler bridge… but the name has since changed to The PamKittyMorning Bridge after Pam adopted it as hers last spring. The PKM Bridge is the path that takes me to Karen’s. Karen and I quickly compared snow-notes… to see who had more. I think I won. Elevation matters. And speaking of Karen… SHE’S GOT A BLOG NOW! If you visit her, be sure to tell her you came from my blog’s high elevation down to her blog’s sea level elevation.
This is not our house (sigh). It belongs to friends of ours (and former neighbors behind us), and it was built by her great-grandfather. Just as dreamy on the inside as it is on the outside. This is the house I got to look at out of my sewing room window at our last house. Not a bad view at all!
When we got back home, my husband started a fire. T-man settled in to some football on TV, and I settled in and did some more sewing. Christmas is only days away… how did that happen???
I am BLOWN AWAY with the responses and comments on my Pennie Pockets. I heart each and everyone of you, and thank you so very much! I blush. I gush. I am so blessed with everyone’s kindness.

Had to chuckle at your delight in the snow. It does look truly beautiful. We’re getting freezing rain/sleet & light snow here in IL. Maybe with all of this ice we can slide our Governor right on outta here…oops, that’s another story! LOL
December 15th, 2008I am so envious! Here in SoCal, we just have rain. The snow is so beautiful and the view is choice. Thanks for the peek.
December 15th, 2008Your photos are beautiful!! I haven’t seen snow in 10 years (don’t care to LOL). I’ll be content looking at your beautiful photos. Love how you cropped the dishes out LOL.
December 15th, 2008How beautiful Monica. Man oh man I wish we had the white stuff today instead of the wet stuff. Lucky you looking out your windows to that beautiful picture.
December 15th, 2008Love the penny pockets and can’t wait to make some of my very own. Your kitchen is wonderful. I want one of those sinks too. Next house for sure. That’s what hunka says. We’ll see.
Thanks for the dreamy white Christmas.
I love the snow photos! Of course your home is lovely too…and the Christmas pennies are just too cute with the buttonhole edges and embroidered names!

Your interior is just a dream. looks cozy, comfy, colorful but quiet. i just love it.
xo
Your photos are lovely. Thanks for sharing. I live in Mid-Michigan, where as you know we have more than our share of snow. I’ll happily pack some in a box and send it your way. I love looking at it… but it’s so flippin cold!!! Temps are -0 this morning. Love your sewing corner. What a great place to stitch!
December 16th, 2008As a child, I had a little kitchen set and there was the prettiest picture of a field of red flowers above the kitchen window. Ever since, I’m hooked on kitchen-window scenery.
I even saved your photo on my work desktop to look at throughout the day when I need to get stress-free. Ha!
Thanks for sharing your lovely views.
December 16th, 2008I grew up in Minnesota and now live in New Hampshire. I’m jealous of the view you have out your windows. We have not had our first true snowfall of the year. Enjoy the snow and the eggnog.
December 16th, 2008I love snow pictures. I love your kitchen sink and window and I’m going to have to try your Pennie Pockets they are so cute.
December 16th, 2008Your snow pictures are fantastic. We are waiting at home for our snow. We had one dusting already last week but now we have 60 degree weather. It’s getting colder today but come one snow. Where are you?
December 16th, 2008I so miss the snow. *sigh* However, I love the rain, too, and we’re actually getting some! Hooray!
December 16th, 2008Holy Crap — those little Christmas penny pockets are AWESOME!!! Stall Christmas!!! I NEED more time!!!!! And that little corner of yours — if I had that for sitting and doing handwork, my butt would be stuck there into eternity!!!
December 16th, 2008I’m glad you’re enjoying our snow! I’m my particular corner of BC we did not get any!! WAH!
December 16th, 2008OMG. I soooooooo need to make those pockets! I printed down the instructions but seeing them all christmasy-cute with candy canes!!!!! OMG! TOO CUTE!
Jen :)
December 16th, 2008Lovely, lovely snow! Here it’s just cold (as in 16 degrees!) but dry.
December 16th, 2008We’re all hoping for a white Christmas though.
Enjoy!
It’s still here it’s still here!!!! I’m so exited. The whole house seems a bit brighter. And it’s supposed to snow again tomorrow! I do so wish we were neighbors, then I could partake in your beautiful corner…while I very slowly and quietly slip a few of your pennie pockets into my…pocket. I LOVE all of your beautiful windows! And your farm sink in the kitchen. I just love everything. xx
December 16th, 2008Your pictures are beautiful. I want to snuggle into your corner with eggnog! Anytime I try to do that in my house I have 3 animals that see where I am headed and jump all over my spot, like too late I’m here. hahah
I love your pennie pockets! So adorable!
Have a great day!
December 16th, 2008Your house is so incredible and I just want to live there when I see your photos. Especially the ones with the snow. Your fireplace is just so beautiful. It’s lovely to see the snow here and I always treasure it like a gift. Well that is until they cancel school :-) But I guess that’s okay too.
December 16th, 2008WOW!!! We are getting little snow today. Or course all the kids at school want to know if we will be getting out early or having school tomorrow.
I was in Astoria in 1979 to meet my Pen Pal. It is a beautiful area.
Happy Holidays!!
December 16th, 2008Isn’t the snow great! I love your house, it looks so cozy I want to sit in your happy little corner and read or sew!!! Let’s enjoy it while we can.
The red and white Pennie Pockets are so darling, I love them.
Enjoy the rest of your snow days xo Laurie
December 16th, 2008Dahling! It is gorgeous! What a beautiful snow fall. Your Happy Corners make me smile :)
December 16th, 2008Oh, Monica, I always get such delight in your delight of the snow. Thank goodness, I can enjoy it from your pictures and not have to be in it!
Your house still looks as cozy as ever. The snow scenes just enhance the look.
Love your Pennie Pockets, too.
December 16th, 2008xo
Awww. I wish I was there looking at my bridge and driving around with you guys. You know how much I love that. All we have here is rain and cool temps. There’s snow on Mt. Diablo I hear, but I haven’t been out for a couple of days due to the cold Frankie and I are sharing.
Miss you. And I’d love a better close up of that Christmas kitchen window please.
December 16th, 2008I’m asking another question… how do you attach the little dangle on the bottom point? I just love that addition! It’s makes the pocket! Please, please, please tell me so that I can make some for myself!
Jen :)
I just threaded the beads with needle and thread. I started at the tip, through the top bead all the way to the end bead. I then did a u-turn and at the bead next to the last one I threaded my way back up through the beads and back to the point. Knotted off and hid my knot. Ok… quick - go make some! - M
December 16th, 2008I’m so old I remember when they built Pam’s bridge. Of course then the Oregonian called it, “The Bridge to Nowhere!” How rude is that.
It’s so amazing to have the snow stay for several days. That NEVER happens here. I did the home tour Sunday, and the flurries outside the windows were magical.
Thanks for telling people about my blog. You were right (of course). I’m having a ball!
December 16th, 2008Well we had snow today too but it is not the event that it is at the Zombie household! The pennie pockets are fabulous. I’m seeing them everywhere too. I think they’d be so so darling out of valentine fabric. Thinking ahead of course.
December 16th, 2008Well, you have me beat with all your snow!!! Mine is only mountains away!!! LOL!! But we could get more tomorrow. Sweet. I mean snow.
December 16th, 2008Thanks for visiting my blog—so glad you like my yellow too!! Even when it snows, yellow is NICE!!! I’m looking forward to a corner to sit in and hand sew—maybe penny pockets!! Hooray!!
WOW you got WAY more snow than we did! LOVE the pictures! The one of “Pam’s” bridge could be a calendar or post card picture. Awesome! They say snow is on the way tomorrow for us, I hope, hope, hope. I’m all stocked up in the pantry, and ready for it. ;o) ooxx`jodi
December 16th, 2008fabulous snow pictures and I love your special cozy place.
December 16th, 2008Good Golly ~ look at all those comments. I can’t even leave one, nothing left to say. (Do I sound like Eeyore yet?) Thanks for noticin’ me…
December 16th, 2008gorgeous pics of the snow but those pennie pockets-oh my gosh!! i hope i have time to make some!
December 17th, 2008your living room looks so pretty with the big snow windows and the roaring fireplace…

Happy Holidays,

December 17th, 2008carol
Hey, I still get giddy when it snows here and we get it almost every day! :) I get excited when I look outside in the morning and I have to go out to shovel. People think I’m crazy, but I don’t care. I LOVE SNOW!!!! Do you still have snow? I keep checking the webcam in Seaside and it looks like there’s still snow on the ground.
December 17th, 2008I thought the pennie pockets were adorable but you took them absolutely over the top with your Christmas versions! They are FABULOUS. Happy snow days to you and happy holidays, too.
December 17th, 2008I love snow TOO! As for the cropped photos…….hmmmmmmm. I MUST give that a shot…very ingenious!
The penny pockets are wonderful…they remind me of putting our shoes outside the door for St. Nick when we were little and lived in Germany. *sigh*
December 17th, 2008Oh glorious, glorious snow! We never have snow. Had a little hail the other day but no snow. I love your beautiful pictures. I finally got my pennie pocket pattern downloaded. I love the Christmasy pockets you made. I need to make some soon! Thank you so much for sharing that pattern.
December 17th, 2008I can’t believe you don’t get snow on a regular basis… eeee gads! You are welcome to have some of our winter snow. We are in for a dooooseeeey on Friday, so come on down to a good old fashioned New England snow! Yuck is all I have to say. I just can’t be as happy about it as you. Sorry.
December 17th, 2008Love the pics of your house. It looks so warm and cozy and inviting. And your snow pics are really lovely. I live in snow country (we average over 100″ a year) but I still love it. Except when the kids have snow days. LOL
December 17th, 2008I heart your little corner.
December 17th, 2008Nothing says Christmas better than some snow, I say. Love your photos.
Just found your blog while wandering aimlessly on the internet…I LOVE your butler’s kitchen sink…Is that what it’s called? That’s what popped into my head…But now apron sink is popping in too…Oh well, I love the sink!…Take care, Katie
December 17th, 2008Hey! I so want to be with you guys for christmas for good times! I would love to see snow like that in Australia! ohhhh, Im soooo jealous! It looks so charming. Love you!
December 18th, 2008Ooohhh I love snow too!
December 18th, 2008What a fab view you had of all the snow.
I love those pennie pockets and actually saw them over on the Martha Stewart site and found you through that!
Lovely blog.
love
Alison

Gorgeous! You were in a winter wonderland! I wonder if it’s melted yet. Seems to have really warmed up here today (although still cold and wet and gray). Those penny pockets are just THE cutest. The pdf alone is sweetness for the eyes. You are just THAT good, aren’t you? ;-)
December 18th, 2008Santa Monica:
December 18th, 2008Gird your loins, we’re in “white-out” conditions up here in Seattle. AND, it’s heading south!! Have fun — me, I gonna try to figure out the chains, oh what fun it is to slide ………
Bonnie
That must have seemed like such a treat. We’re expecting two snowstorms here one tomorrow and I think a Noreaster Sunday night. Usually I don’t look forward to it that much but after our ice storm I am thrilled with the prospect of just shoveling.
December 18th, 2008Random note, LOVE the faucet.
Hehe - looks just like us last week!! REALLY - snow in BATON ROUGE???? Stop by my blog and take a look at the pics! Glad you got to experience some of the beauty too!
Kathy
December 18th, 2008Gorgeous pictures! Every single one brought a smile to my face.
Happy Snow Day!
December 18th, 2008I love the snow! Right now we are bracing for an ice storm. Anyway, your pictures are great! I love your pennie pockets! I actually made some! Thank you so much for the easy directions and for sharing!
December 18th, 2008Are you still dashing through the snow? or are you happily parked in the cozy chair by the fireplace? Your house looks very pretty! (even your kitchen sink before the cropping took place….speaking of which, wouldn’t it be great to be able to crop the size of one’s caboose? Just a click here and a click there ….. no costly surgery, no tedious exercising …..just a perfect butt with absolutely no effort ! Sorry…. don’t know why I went off on that particular tangent …. probably has something to do with the quantity of Christmas cookies that I’ve inhaled over the past few days.)
…..and, pretty snow pictures! We’re on deck for 3 to 7 inches tomorrow, then turning to ice….HATE that ice!
December 18th, 2008Oh, Monica! I have fallen in love with your house…and your fireplace and your windows! And guess what? WE even got snow HERE in San Antonio last week! Of course, it didn’t look anything like yours, but yikes! Snow. In Texas. In December. Hell may very well be freezing over! lol!
And I’m so sad I haven’t gotten to make any Penny Pockets yet! :( I was going to do them for teachers but ran out of time. I was actually trying to make something to put inside the pockets, and they turned out upside down! I think I’m going to give them “after the Holidays/Back to School” gifts this year. lol! Plus, we aren’t seeing my family for Christmas until AFTER Christmas, and I really want to make one for my mom.
December 19th, 2008Your post made me laugh! We’re really getting the snow here this year. It’s coming down again now as I speak. We woke up to 6 inches this morning (SO beautiful). We had places to go, and had to cancel everything. The Mister takes the 4WD to work and I won’t drive the odyssey through snow. I’m hoping we make it to the company Christmas party tonight on the other side of town. Hard to complain though–who doesn’t long for a white Christmas like this? It’s wonderful really, just as long as I don’t have to drive anywhere. (grin)
I haven’t gotten around to making the pockets yet–yours look great!
Have a happy holiday and a super-duper 2009! xox
December 19th, 2008I love this post! It makes me feel all Christmasy! I, too, have corners in my home where I curl up and read or stitch. My husband thinks it’s cute because I have one in every room!
I love the idea about cropping our houses. That’s too funny!!!
I lived in the snow belt in PA for 4 years. For a Louisiana girl I often felt like I was going to drown in snow!
I’ll get snow here in KY, but not like I did every other day in PA (from October to June). I miss it. I’m glad you got more than an inch. It’s beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
December 19th, 2008I’ll try to send some snow your way. We had white out conditions on Sunday night, 4″ earlier this week (I lost track of which day), 4″ last night and we are in a blizzard warning for Saturday and into Sunday. I would be more then happy to wrap some up and send it your way with a nice bow on top. You have to love winter in southern MN. HA! HA! I’m glad you are enjoying your snow.
December 19th, 2008Love all your pictures!!!! I love how you cropped them and your penny pockets are too adorable! Hugs, Mary
December 19th, 2008I am finally wading through BlogLand for some serious (or not) reading, and your snow pics are be-youtiful!! I love that you show dirty (rinsed) dishes in your sink - it makes you look like an average, ordinary person, which I KNOW you’re not!! The happy little corner is one where I would be happy, too - you supply the egg nog, I’ll bring the rum, okay??
December 30th, 2008LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the pennie pockets - they are lovely!
