It’s always about food with me…
May 9th, 2008
I teased about it almost a year ago. Almost a YEAR! And it all started a year ago when my friend Robin gave me some vintage 4-patches for Mimi. More love… Elizabeth sent Mimi some DARLING aqua fabric (the border)… and “Friendship Bread” was born!
Here’s Robin holding the quilt. Wasn’t it nice of her to coordinate her outfit to go with the quilt!
On my sewing room wall at our old house…
It’s so hard to keep things hush, and for so long too. But on the bright side - since I’m such a procrastinator, I’m pretty much timely. Friendship Bread evolved into “Four Bean Salad”…
… which is in the current issue (Summer ‘08) of Quilts & More as “Bay Breeze” (I love the name it was given!). Whoo whoo! So stinkin’ excited over it and I love the photography and how it’s done in a shabby beach chic setting. The yummy fabric is from Joanna’s Allspice Tapestry line for Moda.
I haven’t seen the issue on the newsstands yet, but I know it’s out because the Magazine Queen has her copy. Even with my advanced copy… I was still scooped by Pam! HOW DOES SHE DO IT!?!?! Elizabeth says “pam” is “map” spelled backwards… but I think “pam” is an acronym for Princess of All Magazines.
I love Quilts & More (seriously, no bias on my part) and it’s my favorite magazine of all time. Such a fun issue for me to browse through… Tanya has her ADORABLE “Flirty Skirts” on page 16, and then I see Holly with her DARLING “Slumber Party” on page 50 (and I especially love the “M” and the “O” on page 57 - though I was disapointed there was no “N”, “I”, “C” and “A” - sigh), and then there’s lil ol me on page 40. I had to put on my glasses and whip out the magnifying glass… and there in an ad on page 25 is Karen’s Fat Quarter Fun book. Too fun!
My little Four Bean Salad/Bay Breeze is so much fun to make… I can’t stop making them. All you need for the whole shebang is ONE charm pack and TWO fat quarters. That’s it. Seriously. Oh, and bat. It’s a project in a day, start to finish. Instant gratification. Unless you hand quilt… and if you’re like me… that will take a month. Or two.
Here’s my holiday version. Beeeeee-u-teeee-ful fabrics by Minick and Simpson’s Christmas Past by Moda…
And here’s my summer picnic version with deeeeelicious fabrics from Minick and Simpson’s Prairie Paisley by Moda (binding and flange from my stash, not part of Prairie Paisley)…
Market is just around the corner and almost here. Lots for me to still do before I go, so this is my last post for a while. It’s my first time going (virgin in the house) and I couldn’t be more excited. Can’t wait to see everyone, and putting faces with blogs, and seeing what’s new and yummy they’ve created! I plan on taking lots and lots of pics (even though I know Pam will scoop me on that too) and posting them when I get back.
Blah, blah, blah… I’ve rambled. I don’t know if I’ve put anyone to sleep, but I sure am sleepy now!
And now I must nap.

What a great little quilt! Today I was just looking at your aqualicious flickr pictures and wondered what you had done with those little 4-square patches. What a coincidence that you’d pick today to show them. I bet you did that just for me, didn’t you? LOL Happy weekend!
May 9th, 2008I was at the local quilt shop looking through the magazine since they had just gotten it in and WHAT THE HECK! I said, OH, here’s a quilt by my friend. May 9th, 2008So pretty! Dang it. Every time I come around I find another “gotta try it!” It is a seriously inspiring pattern and I am very excited for your page 40 showing. I like the imagery: Monica, the Virgin, at Market… sacrificed at the altar of fat quarters and jelly rolls. Have a blast!

May 13th, 2008I adore the red, white and aqua quilt! So pretty! It looks just beautiful on the wall in your sewing room.
You lucky ducky to get to go to quilt market! I am trying not to be too jelous, but it sure is difficult. You will have to give a full report!
May 13th, 2008Have a ball!
-Emily
have a great time at Market! I will be in NYC for Stationery but wish I could be a fly on the wall there!
Love the quilts! I am so not the sewer so I admire those who do it so well!
May 13th, 2008I agree with Paula - the quilts would be wonderful on my cubicle walls. It also looks like it would go together very quickly. They could be seasonal, or a series. The possibilities are endless. Yours are simply adorable - my vote goes to the aqua and red, too. Did someone say the Quilt Shop Sampler is out now? As magazines go, it’s also a keeper. Without it, I never would have known about Anna Lena’s, the Carriage House (in Des Moines, WA), or the Speckled Hen (in Wilsonville). I’m determined to make it to Anna Lena’s and the kite festival in Long Beach, WA, in August.Have fun playing in my backyard this weekend!
May 14th, 2008Get this, all the local shops are out of this magazine and I can’t find it at any grocery store! I’ve had to order through amazon. I bow to you Monica and will get this magazine eventually!!!
May 14th, 2008When I was in Phoenix, I got a copy of QNM, since I couldn’t find one around here. I had to show my son and DIL the quilt my FRIEND had created for the magazine! It’s adorable, MJM! I had forgotten about Friendship Bread, and that is so cute, too.
May 15th, 2008I know you will love quilt market - wish I was going, but I just got home and am too pooped to take off again, not to mention broke - bummer! We’ll meet IRL someday!
Fabulous fabric combinations!
May 15th, 2008I was going to tell you my favorite, but I really love them all!
Great little quilts!
I will head out and grab a copy of the magazine.
Congrats on another fantastic quilt, I don’t know which is my favourite, I love them all.
May 15th, 2008I look forward to reading and seeing your pictures from market…woohoo…such excitement for all us quilters.
That is adorable! I can’t wait to make them for every season! And talk about a great gift!!!!
May 16th, 2008Monica is it darling! I just got the magazine the other night, congrats for your pattern being in it! I have yet to ever do any quilting and I think this will be the perfect size and pattern to get my toes wet. Have a great weekend!
May 16th, 2008Congrats Monica!
Now I have to run out and buy my copy.
Quilt Market?? Which one?? Houston in October???
I think Houston is about 2.5 hrs away from Austin.

May 22nd, 2008I bought the magazine right after reading this last week. I’d like to see your whole studio office. I’ve just painted mine that robin’s egg blue and am ready to furnish. Looks like you had fun at market, too. One day, I hope I’ll get to go! — Michele
