Snow Day
January 31st, 2008
As a Californian, a snow day used to mean driving for hours up to the Sierra’s. After almost 9 years now of living on the Oregon coast… a single snowflake AT MY HOUSE sends me into a giddy childlike state. I will NEVER, EVER get tired of snow falling AT MY HOUSE. My HOUSE. Not a weekend trip to Tahoe or Big Bear… but at MY HOUSE. I realize people in Minnesota or Wisconsin might laugh at me, but this was my morning paradise on Monday…
The girls had even more fun then I did. Though I’m not too sure.
Driving down my street I had an epiphany… I don’t know how the eff to drive in snow!
Plenty of this goin’ in the fireplace!
At least I’m not in flip-flops. A sure sign that I live in a Scandinavian community… if I tilt my head to the left - my shadow looks like a Dala horse.
A little sprinkle of “magic”, and it’s a red & aqua morning.
Cabbage-ishy. Kinda reminds me of the dress Chris & Christian designed on Project Runway.
First there’s laughter - then there’s tears. Good-bye snow. I will always love you. I’m not bitter that you’ve left me for some higher elevation. Just sad. I’ll be here waiting for you should you ever come back to me.

You crack me up! Girl, you NEED a trip to the midwest, w/their little piles of snow (20ft deep in spots) and their ?wonderful winters w/minus temps and lovely wind blowing 20+ mph…you would soon lose your love of the white stuff!
January 31st, 2008Actually, you could try to go to Snoqualmie Pass or Spokane…either place would fill you w/snow dreams.
Girls look like they are having fun, tho!

We got snow too!!! Barely any, but enough icy roads that Miss S and Hubby got out of school on Tuesday. There’s still a nice little patch in the backyard left.
January 31st, 2008I know exactly what you mean! I was born & raised in the tropics, Texas and now California, and the thought of seeing snow just makes me giddy! MY Dad, who grew up in Virginia, says I’m crazy and he hates the stuff; spoilsport! I can’t wait till we move on up there and get to romp in it :)
January 31st, 2008stopped by to say hello and introduce myself…I am a friend of Ellens. We have had a lot of snow here too near Boston, but it doesn’t seem to last long being near the ocean and all, it just gets too warm. I am a licensed designer and I develop product for manufacturers. Ellen and I recently went down to Atlanta for the gift show there in early January.
so stop my and say hello…the snow is awfully pretty.
best,

So, do tell-what is the weather usually like there? I’ve researched it to no end but would love to hear from a local! When does it warm up/cool down?

January 31st, 2008Love the red crocs — but if you really love snow so much, I have some for you. Of course, it comes with driving winds and sub zero tempratures — but, hey. You take what you can get!
January 31st, 2008Um, you know I can see Big Bear from my house right?? I think you need to visit. I will take some pics tomorrow just for you…
January 31st, 2008That was beautiful! All of us in the mid-west are jealous of the sunshine accompanying your snow!
February 1st, 2008Oh, I love the pictures! I’m SO HAPPY you got snow. And, ya know, even with a sore back, arm, and shoulder, I don’t know if I will EVER get sick of the snow. We have feet and I still wake up and look out my window to see if it snowed again. I just love it! So, I know exactly what you mean about feeling giddy when the snow falls.
Are those Crocs the Mammoths? I love the fur inside…..so soft and fluffy! :) Lots of people around here wear those because, duh, it’s so cold. Although, it’s warmed up quite a bit today. It’s 30 degrees!
February 1st, 2008I’m ready for a snow day myself. I love getting snowed in and sewing for days and days. I only know this because I lived in the snow belt in PA for four years. Now that I live in KY I can only dream of 4 foot snows!
February 1st, 2008I am the same way! I grew up in Costa Rica and spent the last 18 years in Florida so this snow stuff is all new to me. We now live in Illinois (just South of Chicago) and we have a foot of snow in the ground and I am giddy beyond words. I just LOVE it! Wanna go roll around it it. :) Great pictures, by the way! :)
February 1st, 2008I share the love Monica! We got some too and like you it always makes me giddy! I hope you and I both get more.
Angela tells me we’re going to meet you somewhere halfway for lunch…I can’t wait! Though, I really want to come all the way to your house too. We’ll figure it all out.
February 1st, 2008We live in Utah for 5 years and I swear we get more snow here than we did there. Although, my memory may just be fading with old age.
February 1st, 2008look at that cabbage!!!! that photo should win an award…you are two much with your love of the white stuff I’m looking for palm trees…LOL..thanks for coming by sweets…all my best, Jennifer
February 1st, 2008Stay away from those YELLOW sno-cones!!! :) We got a bit of snow too - but mostly just enough to make us look like a winterland. It too was fleeting!
February 1st, 2008Oh, what wonderful fun to have a snow day! Once in a while (and very, very far between), we actually get a day of snow in Tucson. It doesn’t last long but it’s like a wonderland in the meantime. Everyone goes outside and we all laugh and play with joyful abandon.
February 1st, 2008Oh I’m so envious!! The whole country is getting snow and here I sit in Arizona. Humph.
February 1st, 2008That cabbage picture is simply beautiful and I don’t think you’ll ever lose those crocs in the snow!
Your kind of snow I would love, but right now I hear Bend has a LOT of snow. The kind where you stay inside and don’t go out. Beautiful yes, and COLD too! I’ll come back to Oregon when it melts a bit. Have some more fun with your camera. The photos are wonderful!
February 1st, 2008I grew up in Minnesota and now live in New Hampshire. I would never live anywhere that doesn’t have snow in the winter. I understand your gleefulness entirely! Fresh fallen snow is the bestest!!!!
February 2nd, 2008PS I LOVE your red crocs:)
February 2nd, 2008Love your photos, especially the last three. Hard to believe you are having snow when we are swimming in pools
February 3rd, 2008How come you had sunshine with your snow? We didn’t up here! Your photos are gorgeous - I especially like the cabbage-ishy photo, and your lovely ’snow’ shoes! Thanks for sharing, MJM!!
