My Cranberry Harvest
October 4th, 2007
My one lonely cranberry… Mr. McCrannycran. I don’t know that I qualify as a cranberry farmer, but he’s been nurtured in his little glass womb on my windowsill for a few months now. Picked with love from my friend Karen’s bog. Maybe his buddy O’Pee-weecran will grow to be as big and strong too. Mr. McCrannycran’s brothers and sisters are now in their new home at Ocean Spray, waiting to become a part of your family. So if you see one of his siblings… give a shout out to them from his brother, k.

You know how I feel about cranberries. I love your little peecranberry guy. I must go eat - I mean meet - his friends…
October 4th, 2007I made cranberry pumpkin bread yesterday. I ate cranberry pumpkin bread yesterday. Thought about calling you, but when I came to my senses and looked down, that darn bread was all gone…
You’re a McCranma! How sweet!
So hey, you know I’m going to want to go to that bog you know.
October 4th, 2007I wonder if he’s any relation to the O’Cranahans, or the Cranzales family, or maybe even the Crantsuka’s. My girls are enjoying some of his cran, I mean Clan in their White Cranberry and Strawberry juice…yummy. :)
October 4th, 2007it looks like my blueberry harvest but you got twice as much fruit!

October 5th, 2007I agree that that is one hell of a wonderful picture! But I don’t get it…are you trying to sprout this guy to plant or just waiting to see if the berries there will get more delicious over the weeks in his happy little glass?
I want a cranberry bog!!!

October 5th, 2007This is one crantabulously funny post!
McCranma, I don’t mean to burst your bubble but he looks like he’s flatlining. I think you better get the crash cart and grab the paddle! CLEAR!!!!
October 6th, 2007Oh, Monica, I’m so glad you have rescued Mr. McCrannycran and his pee wee brother. The fate of the rest of the clan is a sad tale indeed.
First they were beaten by a machine until they could no longer hold on to their nurturing vine, then they floated aimlessly until someone with big, black boots came by and slapped them with a paddle. Then the “cranberry cowboys” herded them toward a big elevator which lifted them high above their bogland home and deposited them into a big, dark box. From there they were driven away, dumped mercilessly into a hopper, sent up another elevator, bounced and bumped along so rudely before going into a wind tunnel before finding themselves in another big, dark box. Onto another truck they went, and after a long drive, they ended up in a freezer! In a freezer, I tell you!
I’m not sure you want to know their fate after that, it is so gruesome. But let me tell you that it involves slicing and squeezing and sweetening and drying until our little cranberry friends resemble those nasty raisins–but, hey, they taste a lot better!
October 9th, 2007What a lonely cranberry. How grateful he must be for the love and attention you have given him!
For several weeks my 10 yo DD has picked a sunflower each Sunday on her walk home from church and placed it in a vase on my window sill. I was so sad last week when she told me the sunflowers have all died. :-( Yesterday she went into our yard a picked several flowers and fall leaves and put them in a vase for me. She makes me feel so loved!
