How I Spent My Summer Vacation
July 2nd, 2007
What was supposed to be a summer filled with camping, and gardening, a trip to Victoria, BC (one of my fave places on the planet)… is now a summer of painting, packing and chaos. We bought a new house and are selling our current one (oh the stress of it all). It seems like so many of my bloggy pals are moving too… must be some kind of bloggy moving virus goin’ around.
We’re not moving far… just six or so minutes from our current home. We’re trading in the city life at Case de Zombie for country life (as you can see from the photo of our new backyard). From a house of stairs to a one level rancher (our reason for the move). Life at El Ranchero de Zombie will be grand… but for now it’s a circus. I hope to be able to blog and to visit your blogs at some point in the next month, but I’ll have limited Internet/email/blog time as the paint cans & brushes, the moving boxes, and the to-do list all scream my name.
I hope you all have a great summer and I hope to see you all again soon!!! Don’t forget me, k. And for you friends who are moving as well… there’s a bottle of rum with all our names on it and I’m ready to hit it with you all and celebrate!
Hearts & Crafts,
Monica (and Mimi too) :)

What a view! and God bless ya… I hate moving. With a passion… I feel for you. Oh the agony!
Is there a glorious country like studio there for you in your new home? I hope so!
July 2nd, 2007Love the view! I wanna roll around all over your lawn, ok?
July 2nd, 2007It doesn’t matter how short or long the move, it’s still MOVING!! YUCK! When we had our house built 9 years ago, I told my husband I wanted our front door to be a “coffin door” - I don’t EVER want to move again!
July 2nd, 2007Good luck with the move - I feel your pain! But, with a backyard like THAT, it looks like a very worthwhile endeavor. Hopefully, there’s an equally grand sewing room to match!
Your new yard looks like the perfect place for big gatherings of like minded quilty friends. For a minute I thought you were moving to Victoria, which is just a ferry ride away from me. Victoria is definitely one of my favourite cities too, very pretty.
July 2nd, 2007thinking of you from way down here but i am so going to grace el ranchero! head down, tail up sista and all the very very best!!!
loulou and bloss xoxox
July 2nd, 2007Two years ago we decided to downsize - sold the old house in 20 minutes (yes, really) and bought a new house immediately. We moved 4th of July week end - talk about HOT. Enjoy the hardwork and just keep your eye on the brass ring. :-)
July 2nd, 2007“The hills are alive with the sound of…lawn mowers! Lalalalala for a thousand years!” LOL! Very nice and spacious backyard!
BTW, I’m coming to visit and I’ll take bedroom #3, please! That’s the one right next to the kitchen, right? I hope so. lol!
Good luck with the move! Keep your cool. Just imagine your new sewing room. It’s going to be very ‘FABU-lous’ dahling!
July 2nd, 2007What a great yard! Have a great move. That is an experience in and of itself!
July 2nd, 2007If the house is as fantastic as the yard - the move will be well worth the pain.
July 2nd, 2007I’m askared of moving. Can’t wait to see the after photos.
July 2nd, 2007We did that 3 years ago — moved literally right around the corner — could spit from the old house to the new one — we were even crazy enough to BUILD the new house — hubby was the general contractor — the house came out really beautiful, BUT I don’t EVER want to move again AND I DEFINATELY do NOT want to EVER build a house again!!! We’re STILL not finished — fireplace mantel has to be designed and installed, the back deck has to be figured out and built, more painting EVERYWHERE still has to be done — I also have at least 5 boxes of STUFF to unpack — they’ve been sitting there for 3 years waiting — apparantly we don’t really need that stuff !!!
ANYHOW — HAPPY PACKING, PAINTING, MOVING, and hopefully , not too much arguing with the sig. other!!! … and HAPPY DRINKING when you’re all settled again!!!
July 2nd, 2007ooh I moved a lot of times in my life, so I wish you a lot of strength for the paint jobs and everything you planned…….. do it now or never…..we have still five big moving cartons in the basement, (should do a yard sale?) in it are the LP collections of my beloved hubby and some old bed sheetings of Aunt R., which I hatch to being hip style:-))and toys of our children, think/hope I have some time left before getting grandma, but who knows?
July 3rd, 2007happy unpacking to you!
Hurry back and happy moving!
July 3rd, 2007I hate moving. Moving sucks no matter if it is near or far. Moving sucks even when it is a good and happy move. But…moving can be good too…forces you to weed through a few things…but NOT fabric! heavens no! Keep the fabric! When we return from this vacation we may be moving too. ACK! I think it is a bloggy virus!! Take care Monica. Breathe deep…peel one potato at a time and enjoy that gorgeous new location!
July 3rd, 2007HUGS!!!
Now that is a view — and just think, somewhere in all that painting, planning, moving and shifting — there is a new craft space to organize, decorate and treat yourself kindly with! Good luck! Can’t wait to see/hear about it when you can!
July 3rd, 2007I want to know more. MORE! I guess you can tell me all about it when I see you later this week. It looks gorgeous!
July 3rd, 2007Hope the move goes well for you and have a great summer. Can’t wait for photos of your new home.
July 3rd, 2007Ooh, nothing worse than moving… and nothing better once you’ve unpacked! :D
And you’re now the 4 or 5th person I know moving this month. Something in the water, I suppose.
Enjoy the countryside! :D
July 3rd, 2007Congratulations on your new house! Moving is time consuming and draining- but when yuo’re all done it’s worth it! I love your big yard- now do you have a riding lawn mower??
July 3rd, 2007Oh, and I finally got the Quilts and More magazine at my shop- your quilt is lovely- I will be making myself one! Good luck on the painting- packing and unpacking- hope you get a wonderful quilting studio at your new house as well :)
I totally understand. LIfe has been busy here, too, and the reason I haven’t posted much.
This week my daughter is moving into her new home. My friend and I have been painting, and painting, and painting!! The decorating will start, soon, and then we will be sewing, and sewing, and sewing!!
Sometimes life does get busy, and too busy to blog, but hopefully we all understand.
By the way, I see the big beautiful back yard. Hopefully you have a big beautiful sewing room!! I can’t wait to see it!
July 4th, 2007OOh… Monica, congratulations. Now you can invest in one of those fun lawn mowers that you can drive! And just think of all of the space for the dogs to play in, and the chickens to run amuck! I’m so excited for you. :)
July 4th, 2007It’s such a beautiful place! I’m so happy for you, though as I’ve told you, we won’t be neighbors since we finally told crazy lady to take a flying leap. DANG! We did find another beautiful house but in town. I’ll email you the details and will be blogging about it soon.
July 4th, 2007Call if you need help. I’m ready and willing!
Have a great move. Breathe deep whenever it gets too crazy and remember that eventually all the boxes WILL get unpacked!!
July 5th, 2007Joanna
Congratulations. Victoria will miss you.
July 6th, 2007Your site is SOOO adorable and well…happy! Just popping in from Angelinas place!
July 8th, 2007What can I say but I feel your pain. Every backbreaking, feet throbbing, elbow cringing, eyes-so-bleary-I-could-die-right-now minute of it. Hang in there! Just a few weeks and we’ll all be our happy selves again! ~A :-)
July 8th, 2007If I lived closer, I’d bring over a casserole of my favorite spinach enchiladas to celebrate la vida de Zombie en el rancho! I hope the move and everything else goes well.
July 9th, 2007You are in my thoughts,
K

Hi Monica!
July 29th, 2007I just discovered your fantastic blog. Hope your moving is going well. I’ll spend the time until you’re back blogging reading all your old posts.
Btw: I love your fabric folding tutorial! I got started already and the result is looking very nicely so far. Now, back to work.
Are you moved yet? Hope all is well.
