Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks
November 11th, 2010
I’m tickled pink to be in another issue of Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks issue. I do so love the 100 Blocks issues - and love being a part of it. I also love, love, love the mug Quiltmaker gave to all the contributors (we each have our block on it). My mug + coffee mug = mugshot. I really shouldn’t be left unsupervised with Photoshop.
My block is called Snow Happy Home (block #115). Crazy cute name, eh - Quiltmaker was the genius behind that. I got to use my Holiday Happy fabric - and that was a HUGE THRILL for me. The yellow dot is from Lecien’s Color Basics collection. So buttery, so yummy.
Quiltmaker has all sorts of celebratory goodness goin’ on - so be sure to check out their 100 Blocks Blog Tour with all the other blockmakers.
Want a chance to win an issue? Leave me a comment on this post by 5:00 pm PST on Sunday, 14 Nov 2010. I would love to know what everyone’s all time favorite block is (because I’m Mrs. Kravitz-ishy like that). I’ll random.org TWO winners - one person will receive an issue from Quiltmaker, and one person will receive one from me.
[Contest is now closed]
WINNERS UPDATE - Congrats to the winners! Random.org picked #83 “mean sarah jean” and #207 “Linda (Petey)”.

Gill
Oh that is just way too cute. I am in love with Pinwheels. for ages now.
November 11th, 2010Cute pattern ;) The fabrics you used made me smile into my 1st cup of coffee. Interesting!
November 11th, 2010I’m a newbie quilter, so I’m still learning about blocks. My favorite one I’ve tried recetnly was the pinwheel block, though mine was a big. . . wonky? I dunno. I’m still learning!! I really like to try new things, and do them over and over until I’ve gotten them perfected! Give me time and I’ll be passable, I hope!
November 11th, 2010LOVE your mugshot - you hilarious woman!
That block is too cute. Too CUTE! You make me pee myself. Actually…I need to email you about peeing myself…
I digress…
November 11th, 2010Fave block? To look at but not do myself because I’m useless would be a double wedding ring. Fave for me to do - anything with HST, because they’re so useful. Or am I just incredibly easily pleased?
eeeeeeeeeeek = that’s me going crazy over your beyond-cute block!
November 11th, 2010monica, i LOVE it…it’s just sooooo *you* and you know i can’t resist anything you create!
if i hadn’t already decided that i must get me a copy of this mag i had by now.
cuuuuuuute (and not only the block!)
{ooops, i’ve totally forgotten to add my all-time-favorite block…please forgive me ‘cuz i was so distracted from all the sweet cuties! can’t delete the first so please don’t think i want to obtain a second entry by fraud…i just want to complete my task:}
November 11th, 2010i think my all time fave block would be found in the DWR/Pickle Dish corner…curves do really appeal to me and isn’t a ring perfection (maybe this is why i haven’t attempted it yet)?
I think my favourite block is whichever one I’m making at the time! That means that at the moment it is Drunkards’ Path.
November 11th, 2010i love pinwheels, and flying geese, and stars, haha, just add them all to the list :O}
November 11th, 2010So cool that you have a block in both issues. I am all about applique for the moment. It’s new to me, so your block is particularly cute!
November 11th, 2010Oh, Bewitched is my favourite vintage TV show even if Mrs. Kravitz does drive me insane every time she opens her mouth!
I don’t think I have any particular favourite block, but I love geometrical blocks with square in square (or rectangle in rectangle) and apparently I love HSTs, even though I go a little crazy when I make them!
November 11th, 2010My favorite block really changes as I work on a new quilt, but often comes back to log cabin or stars. Your block is just so fun and cute.
November 11th, 2010I love your little happy home - adorable!
November 11th, 2010I have a soft spot for Ohio Stars. I have no idea why.
November 11th, 2010time and time again, i go back to the log cabin block. i just love it

November 11th, 2010This is as cute as can be! Congrats!
November 11th, 2010I dont have an all time favorite block….its like choosing your favorite kid. I’ve always liked Kaleidescope. congrats on being included in the issue.

I love your little block and esp. the heart shaped smoke. Too cute! Congratulations.
November 11th, 2010Very cute block. I think I love basket blocks the best.
November 11th, 2010I want this magazine so badly!!! Seriously I’ve been looking for it since I saw the first teaser cover weeks ago.
My favorite block… I love appliqué. That’s not terribly helpful, that covers some serious ground. Lately some of my favorite stuff is coming from Blackbird Designs. I love how they do American Flags & flower vases.
Oh & Bunny Hill - anything with a rabbit, I’m there.
November 11th, 2010Right now I[m partial to Carrie Nelson’s Chunky Monkey block from this blog hop, but that is subject to change (as always). I really like pineapple blocks, especially the skewed ones. Just a little bit off kilter, you know? Ha ha!
November 11th, 2010I am soooooo excited for you CONGRATS. And what a cute block it is…
November 11th, 2010Such a cute block and adorable fussy-cutting. Thanks for a chance to win!
November 11th, 2010Such a cute block! My favorite are usually string blocks!
November 11th, 2010I love your gingerbread-ish quilt block - it looks so Christmasy! I’ve only made 4 quilts so I don’t really have a favorite block yet. I’m just thankful when they turn out somewhat similar to the pattern.
November 11th, 2010I love all house blocks. I love the free rein we have when we think about happy houses!!!! Your little house block is past PRECIOUS!!!!! I love it.
November 11th, 2010I also love your darling Dios de los Muertos Happy Zombie skull. Now THAT is past cute.
What a darling blog! I am a wannabee quilter! (I’m a hooker, actually…….lusting over quilting)
My favorite block is Weathervane. It’s simple but great. Kathie L in allentown
November 11th, 2010I really love your block! Especially the hearts coming out of the chimney = )
November 11th, 2010Your block is increadible and yes it is so very cute. Oh and your fabric is gorgeous too!
November 11th, 2010Your block is adorable. It’s hard to choose just one favorite block, but I am partial to square-in-a-square. So many things you can do with it, and fast to put together.
November 11th, 2010Oh! That’s such a *cute* block!
I would love to win an issue. I’ve been hoping for one… =-)
My favorite block…? Well, i’m not really a traditional type of person, so i prefer applique (usually “of my own making”) and i love yours! Especially with all those cute little gnomes peeking out everywhere. =-)
Thanks for the chance for this mag!
November 11th, 2010=-)
This is a cute block, I love the shape of the tree Monica. And I’d know that mugshot anywhere..heehee. I do love pinwheels, so versatile and they are easy to do, a big plus!
November 11th, 2010How could the favorite not be yours? Silly girl! Great magazine.
November 11th, 2010My favorite block is log cabin (see the name of my blog)? I would love to win a book!
November 11th, 2010What an adorable block! I love star blocks and pinwheels too.
November 11th, 2010Well, since you’ve now asked & I’ve now have had to analyze myself I have come to a conclusion about myself that I haven’t a all-time favorite. Oopsey :} What I do have is changing likes. I rotate between pieced, applique and paper-pieced blocks :)
November 11th, 2010How cute is the rounded shapes of block #115?! Luv’en it! Congrats on being selected, plus they chose the coffee mug with you in mind ;)
I like the soft shapes instead of the more expected angles in a building. Love the spring feel that this has.
November 11th, 2010Your block makes my heart smile. I am in the buy fabric like I have a plan for it but haven’t gotten past the fear of getting started phase. I love applique and am curious how yours is attached? Really nice affect. My favorite block- I really like the flying geese but since I haven’t made one yet we shall see. I do love your block! Please enter me in the drawing for the book. Thank you! ~ Sue
November 11th, 2010I love the log cabin blocks - so much to do with them! Congrats on yours - its cute
November 11th, 2010thanks!
Oooh I *love* your block! My favorite block is whatever I am making at the time, I get so much joy from sewing that I can’t help but love it when I get the chance to!
November 11th, 2010How adorable!! Throw my name in the hat! Thanks for a great blog.
November 11th, 2010lol…
First thing I thought: Guilty!
You are criminally, creatively, cleverly quiltastic… and funny too.
Maria is going to be delighted by your block. Maybe we can make our own little version with the Holiday Happy you sent us!
November 11th, 2010I couldn’t pick just one block from the book - oh, my; wouldn’t a quilt of all the blocks be so terrific?
November 11th, 2010ooh, fun! I’d love to see all these new blocks. There’s one from last years (whose name I don’t know but I’ve seen recently) that I’d love to make, and I’m sure there are tons this year that I’d love as well (including yours, of course!).
November 11th, 2010Your block is adorable. All time favorite block, that’s hard. I always love a good Irish Chain, there is so much you can do with them :)
November 11th, 2010Love your block. It could be a present all by itself!
I like blocks with teeth. Sawtooth Star appears over and over in my quilts, Delectable Mountains, Kansas Troubles…
November 11th, 2010Super Cute Ms. Happy! Is that a snowy roof I spy???
November 11th, 2010Love your block, it is so cute! My all time favorite block has to be the 9 patch as you can then cut it up and make so many other patterns. Thanks for the giveaway.
November 11th, 2010This block is so cute, and the fabric yummy. I can’t wait until the magazine comes out.
November 11th, 2010What a cute block! I think my favorite block would have to be any star block. I love stars
November 11th, 2010I think my fav block is either the Ohio star or the maverick star. That little cottage is SOOO stinkin cute, I love it! Thanks for the chance!
November 11th, 2010Love that little house! I can always love a pinwheel, so I guess my all-time-fave is the HST.
November 11th, 2010I agree, the soft edges, just make it happier! I think this would look very cute as a wall hanging!
November 11th, 2010At the moment, I really don’t have any favorite blocks. I like to paper piece; but, don’t often do that. I tend to veer towards traditional blocks such as log cabins and flying geese.
November 11th, 2010I haven’t made enough blocks to find a favorite yet. But I’m thinking that I need to start just making blocks because they’re quick finishers and fun to try new things.
November 11th, 2010Love your block and mugshot! I think my favorite block is a log cabin.
November 11th, 2010Love your block. Applique is so much fun. My favorite block is the Ohio star. I think you can do so many things with it by changing what you put in the center.
November 11th, 2010Your block is so cute. Congrats. I love any blocks that involve applique.
November 11th, 2010Love your sense of humour and your block! I had such a great time with last year’s magazine…can’t wait to see this one!
November 11th, 2010Your block is adorable! My favorite block is the card trick. I’ve never made one, but it’s definitely on my to-do list. :)
November 11th, 2010Oh yah…I forgot to tell you (cause you are dying to know!) that I really don’t have a favorite block. I try not to make the same thing twice and always try something new. I suppose that I have made more star block variations than anything else. Heart blocks would be a close second.
November 11th, 2010Fun block! It would be cute in any fabric.
November 11th, 2010I have to tell you that I love your style and that I am saving up for the stuffed animal doll organizer thing kit (that was in Quilts and More). Fabulous! I love all the bright colors and fun graphics!
November 11th, 2010I’d have to say Blackford’s Beauty is one of my all time favorites…but then again…I love anything that’s star like.

November 11th, 2010i’ve seen a couple people talking about this “100 blocks” and it looks fantastic! congrats on getting in, i love all your cuteness! i used to prefer abstract blocks, but i’m really starting to get into picture blocks now!
November 11th, 2010Stop in the name of the Law, Johnny Law, I charge you with pure awesomeness lol -sorry too much Kung Fu Panda was watched this week lol
November 11th, 2010I love your block. It would be so neat to go through the blocks in the book and make a quilt with all the neat blocks featured. I would love to win a copy.
November 11th, 2010Your Photoshop/PhotoBooth comment cracked me up. Maybe I haven’t been at this long enough, but I don’t have a favorite block. I avoid y-seams whenever possible. So, my non-favorite block would have to be anything-with-a-y-seam. I need to get over that, too.
November 11th, 2010Your block is too cute, Monica!
November 11th, 2010BTW were you going to give a tutorial with the cute gnome fabric (big-bigger-biggest?) I still have it here waiting for it ;o)
Thanks for the morning laugh…Mrs. Kravitz. Brings me way back. Love the cute block, and so happy you got to use your fabrics. Favorite block for me is my paper pieced half sq. triangles. I love them and make them in all sizes for leaders and enders.

Love your block - so adorable! Favorite block. . . applique probably. With flowers, and maybe a bird and some leaves. . . Not as formal as a Baltimore Album block. . . primitive. Of course, any block made in pinks and browns and creams will likely win my heart too!

November 11th, 2010My fav would be pinwheels, scrappy and I love your new block…And I would love the magazine
November 11th, 2010My favorite block is a split nine patch. It is divided on the diagonal with light on one half and dark on the other except for the center square which is dark. There are so many ways it can be arranged in a quilt.

November 11th, 2010Well so far I’m liking your block. So many I have seen are pieced and I love applique so it’s refreshing to see your block. The fabulous fabric in this block doesn’t hurt either.
November 11th, 2010Love your block! My favorite block - keep in mind I’m still a beginner - is the half square triangle. So versatile!
November 11th, 2010= mugshot, I love that! So much fun to see you having so much fun.

WONDERFUL Block! I love it. Matter of fact, I can look out my kitchen window right now and see where you might have gotten the snow from, LOL. Congratulations on making the 100 Blocks magazine. (I was up in the wee hours of the morning so if this happens to be my second comment, I assure it is truly due to bad dreams and a ’senior moment’ and I apologize sincerely).

My all-time favorite block is probably shoo-fly just because it was the first one I ever learned. I also like square in a square. Just give me simple, I guess. But I mostly make applique quilts. Go figure! Your little house and tree would be perfect in a quilt for my grandchildren.

November 11th, 2010I love your block, and the mugshot!
Pretty new to the whole crafting/quilting/sewing thing(well not sewing, but just actually making something with my sewing) so I don’t have a favorite block yet…
November 11th, 2010Cute blog! I especially love the title. As for all-time favorite blocks, I haven’t seen all of them from the book yet (although yours is very cute and may be a winner). I would have to say my favorite ever is the pineapple block- if that counts.

They were so cute!

Cute block - I am tempted to enter the world of applique (which so far I have managed to resist!). Well done!

November 11th, 2010Very cute, Monica! My all-time favorite block is “Hither and Yon”, because I like the combination of seemingly unrelated parts. I have to admit, though, it’s a pain to make and I’ve never actually used it except in a sampler quilt!
November 11th, 2010I’m really loving the Whirleygig block that Jackie at Canton Village Quilt Works is demoing right now. Your block is very cute too.
November 11th, 2010How can you possibly choose a favorite from all the wonderful blocks? There are just too many. Love yours, love them all.

November 11th, 2010Your block is so pretty! I like the snow on the roof and the hearts coming out of the chimney–so creative! I can’t say that I have one special favorite block, I do remember making the Madison House block and loving it. There are so many great blocks, I think I like them all.

November 11th, 2010thanks for the giveaway–I’d love to win a block made by you!
♥Duff
My favorite has to be Snail’s Trail
November 11th, 2010What an adorable block! I really couldn’t say what my favorite block is - I guess it’s whatever I’m currently working on. The classics are always a hit with me. Give me an uneven nine-patch (puss-in-the-corner) any day and I’m happy…
November 11th, 2010What a happy block! Congrats on being chosen - what an honor.
November 11th, 2010I love your block!!!! Very cozy! My favorite block is anything with a pinwheel in it.
November 11th, 2010That is the cutest stinkin home I’ve ever seen. Love the house, love the tree, LOVE the smoke coming out of the chimney. Oh, the fabric is pretty special, too! I am also pretty darned fond of the mug shot.
November 11th, 2010What a cute block and even cuter fabric. I’m going to have to look for that next weekend when I go to the states to shop. PS: My favourite blocks are pinwheels.
November 11th, 2010Only one? That’s too hard, but I generally like star blocks.
November 11th, 2010Lovely block.
My all time favorite? A finished one!! LOL
November 11th, 2010Not sure - they all have their merits - but I think the most fun I had was marrying a disappearing nine patch to a half square triangle. unfolding that one was like Christmas every time - always different and unexpected.
I really love the house! Pinwheels are great. Thank you.
November 11th, 2010I just had to tell you that I took a trip to Okinawa, Japan a few weeks ago and while looking in the quilt store there I found YOUR fabric line. So cute….Congrats….your line is all over the world. How exciting.

thanks so much for a chance to win :0)
Happy sewing
November 11th, 2010What an adorable block and very cute fabrics too. Given I am very new to quilting I haven’t really decdided on any one block as a favorite yet. I’m partial to some of the log cabin block layouts however so maybe that is my favorite. Oh heck, I don’t knwo but this could be the real reason I have’t cut into any fabrics yet to start. There are SO many to choose from I’m stalled at the options. This is one reason I’m anxious to get this magazine. I figure that I will choose from those in this issue to be first and that will lower the number of options I have. OR maybe I’ll find the reason for not starting are really that I have a fear of cutting my fabrics afterall. LOL
November 11th, 2010I love that little house. Its so cute and the colors are great!!!
November 11th, 2010Thanks for the giveaway. I love the different star blocks. I like your block it is very cute.
November 11th, 2010Love your cheerful house block. Hmmmm, asking me what my favorite quilt block is, is like asking me what my favorite chocolate is…. let’s see….I like churn dash, schoolhouse, various applique (usually flowers)…but then there are 1930s butterfly patterns, those cute scottie dogs….ummmmm…you get the idea! I think my favorite block somehow always seems to be the one I am currently working on!
November 11th, 2010What a happy, fun holiday block you have made!
November 11th, 2010Thanks for sharing
Hope you can send to Oklahoma, USA! I’d love that magazine.

November 11th, 2010Today churn dash block, tomorrow happy blocks, the day after — who knows. Often times my favorite block is whatever I am working on at the time. Aloha.
November 11th, 2010I don’t know that I have a “real” favorite block … altho I did discover a block called MOONDANCE that I love… I made a couple of table toppers in fall fabrics out of it … and it was gorgeous! But I LOVE your lil cutie block … just brings delight to my eyes :)

November 12th, 2010Adorable! That’s the house I want to live in when I grow up - where I will drink only pastel colored adult beverages out on the porch (sorry I have to have a porch!) with pretty little tea sandwiches and cookies and cakes . . . while watching the half naked buff lawn boy (don’t worry he’d be over 21!) and/or pool boy . . . wow, is it hot in here or what?!! Anywho, cute block! :-D
November 12th, 2010Please enter me into your drawing. Yesterday couldn’t get to your blog - blog not found errors. My favorite block is the 4 patch because everywhere a square can be used, a 4 patch can be substituted. Congrats on your 100 Blocks entry - it is too cute. Thanks for the giveaway.

November 15th, 2010LOVE YOUR BLOCK!!!! Great fabric line also. I’m going to have to make it!!!
November 21st, 2010I absolutely LOVE this little house Know what I love most about it? Everything isn’t lined up “just so”, so even a klutz like me can do it and get respectible results. Thanks! I already have plans for it. I’ve been needing to make a new sewing machine cover and am going to put this on one side. Something summer-y on the other, and Wah-LAH, a year ’round machine cover!
