HOLY COW - I got some crafting done this month!

Monday, June 29th, 2009

Bunny Hill Designs/Anne Sutton’s uber darling “A Tisket, A Tasket” blocks of the month for May and June.  MAY and JUNE!  I’m late AGAIN to the party.  I’m somewhat prepared for the delights Anne gift’s us each month, but I don’t really know what Swell/Sweet fabrics I’m going to use until I see the block. A part of me imagines myself in a beret and looking at the block pattern through my thumbs and index fingers, glass of wine near-by. But that would be way too pretentious. So I opt for just the wine.

My lighting is sucky and makes the Moda Dotty butter yellow look like some funky seafood chowder yellow. You’ll just have to trust me, IRL the colors are FANTASTIC.

Getting my blog-groove back on

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

We’ve been having a jam packed summer so far - so jammed that my desktop holds over half a dozen folders of “blog food” ready to be blogged. Waiting to be uploaded and chatted up.
So many words.
So many photos.
So many friend adventures.
So much to say.
So much to document before my fleeting memory *fleets up*.

The beginning of June ushered in DS2’s graduation from Astoria High School. First came Awards Night at the Liberty Theater in Astoria. A whopping 1.67 million dollars was awarded in scholarships. About 120 graduates ÷ by 1.67 mil = an S-load of scholarship money per student!
Astoria High School - Class of 2009
DS2 receives his generous scholarship check from Astoria High School Scholarships Inc. Thank you AHSS, Inc.!
Astoria High School - Class of 2009
Graduation took place in The Brick House - the Astoria High School gym… and only a few hours after the AHS boys baseball team took the 4A state championship title. Great speeches and presentations, and not a dry eye in the house.
Astoria High School - Class of 2009
After much waiting, it must have seemed like 4 years for the balloons to finally drop.
Astoria High School - Class of 2009
La Familia. Left to right> Me, DS2, T-man and DS1 (who came all the way from Australia). Just YESTERDAY (10 years ago) we were standing in this same position as DS1 graduated from Moanalua High School. T-man and I appeared to be much taller back then - I’m having a hard time accepting that my 6′+ babies are grown up now.
Astoria High School - Class of 2009
And this is Stomp (the Fighting Fishermen)… the Astoria High School mascot. I think he looks like a Scooby-Doo villain, myself.  And he’s saying… Astoria High School - Class of 2009
“You damn meddling kids… who said you could grow up so fast… and make your mommas cry with pride.”

Yes. I think that’s exactly what he’s saying.

And the winner is…

TAMMY!   Tammy suggested my give-away dolly’s name be Polly T. Dolly.  I also loved the many suggestions for Malitda - they ran a super close second (and will be the name of my next dolly)!  Having my oldest son visiting from Australia and he brought me lollies (candy), and Sarah being Aussie, and my youngest son off soon to Australia for a visit (graduation gift)… and when I read Tammy’s comment “Polly doesn’t feel like making lollies”… I knew Polly T. Dolly was THE name for Dolly.  And the fact that I’m a lollygager, a slave to my DVR, and I can’t function without my iPhone (btw, new update on June 17th… copy and paste is finally here! Well, almost here.)… I knew Tammy had sealed the deal. Here’s Tammy’s comment, it’s A. DOR. ABLE.:

Oh my nerves and stars, how freakin’ CUTE is she?!  Her name is definitely Polly!  Her business card would read: Polly T. Dolly (her middle name is The).  And she’s a Lolly-maker.  Sometimes, when Polly doesn’t feel like making lollies, she lolligags around the house, looking for other things to do, such as playing volleyball, watching a movie on Tevo like WallE, or chatting on her iPhone with her good, good friend, Molly.  Oh, by gosh, by golly, how we all love Polly T. Dolly!  xo

Thank you all SO MUCH for playing along and for your awesome suggestions.  I WISH I had a dolly for everyone!  And my photo has absolutly nothing to do with this post… I just hate to have a post be pho-naked.  And because it kicks ass that I live close enough to be able to take a pic in front of one of the filming locations of my newest movie/book obsession.  OB.  SESS.  ION.

All “SEWN” up launch party & giveaway!

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

SEWNA better title more suited for me… “It’s a party and I’m late again!”

Getting in just under the wire, and only 4 days left until SEWN goes live… I add my giveaway to the party.   Better late then never, right?   Graduation, family visiting from Australia and the Bay Area, family projects, mag project… busy times at Casa de Zombie this month.  Thanks to my publicist slash cheerleader slash personal secretary slash cosmic twin PamKittyMorning for getting me in on Sarah’s new SEWN launch party.  Sarah, as in sweet and amazing Sarah Fielke of The Last Piece - she’s a quilter, a teacher, a designer and author of “Material Obsession” and “Material Obsession Two: Shared Inspiration”.  And she’s an Aussie (20 bonus cool points - oi, oi, oi).

To celebrate the SEWN launch party, I’m giving away this little doll I made from a slightly modified Inside A Black Apple doll pattern (which can be found at Martha Stewart).  Thanks to Jenny for getting me on the doll kick!  If you’d like to have your own give-away and join the launch party or see who else is having a give-away for the launch, you can do so here.
All SWEN up party give-away
Dolly has no name. Yet. That’s up to the winner. All you have to do is leave a comment - telling me what you’d name her (and why if you want, because I’m nosey like that) - by 2pm PST on June 8th, 2009. I will pick a winner by the name I like best… but if I like them all (and chances are I will, this being such a creative community)… I will use random.org to pick the winner. I have a hunch I’ll be using the latter. I’ll announce the winner shortly after 2pm PST (or when I get back from dropping DS1 off at the airport for his flight back to Oz).
All SWEN up party give-away
Dolly is dressed in Lecien’s “Antique Flower Collection” for her body and Urban Chicks Swell #31027-12 for her legs.  Her hair is from my stash - and to my best knowledge it’s a Maywood Studio piece.  Any guesses?
All SWEN up party give-away
Dolly’s bio:  Dolly is an out-door adventure girl, likes to sew, take short walks on a long beach, watch copious amounts of tv, has a crush on Jack (sorry Cricket InTheBox) and Joel McHale, and most of all… she likes to sleep in late.  Sorry… little spring action Beanie Jack not included (unless I go to JITB and can snag another one).  I do need me a 2/99¢ taco fix…

Unsupervised quilting, crafting, mischief and absurdity from my teenie weenie tiny little studio in the woods on the North Oregon coast.
